Howie.....you just don't get it, do you? We are at a sad moment in time when an evil group by the name of ISIS is decapitating men, women, and children in the name of religeon. This was what you said which sparked my reaction: "Use a head chopper and place a kid in it; tell the kids that all people are sinners and the wages of sin is death; push down on the blade and announce that God forgives our sins and we are saved!!!" Do you not consider that it is a trifle insensitive, especially as this is the gospel section of The Magic Café? I have no doubt that Jesus would forgive you, and I forgive you too. However, I think an apology would be most welcome, but that is your call!!! Smile JR

Using the Magic Compass aka High Sign

One could talk about forgiving 70 times 7
And as you have the area go left to right talk about as far as the East is from the West as
He stretched out his arms.
The up and down arrows could be used as well

If you are into sound at the end drop 3 very large nails/spikes.
The ones I use are about 1 foot long

Depending on where you are, you might want to be aware of wood floors etc.

Love and prayers

Hi - as Harris suggested you can use the Magic Compus - though I made mine 12 x 24(or 14 X28 -etc-etc) so you can fold it in half -outsides as regular compus - inside has the words FORGIVNESS _ arrows up/down/sideways- nowmatter where/how-- God Forgives - Also you can make the outside(Arrow sides)decor as a gift with ribbons & Bow where the arrow point is - befor opening you could say "the greatest gift is!!!---" 'FORGIVNESS' Ralph(russo)Rousseau

For those that use puppets, you could teach your puppet Bible versus on forgiveness.

This doesn't have to be a ventriloquist routine.

Though I am a ventriloquist, not all my puppets are used with my lips being still.

In fact one of my puppets asks me why my lips are moving when he talks.

I use the Silk in Balloon for this message. Also use a Ball to Cube. Take the silk and show it as sin. Place silk in hand that is secretly holding the ball to cube. Insert silk into ball and open hand to show sin blocks our relationship with God. Bring out the fully inflated clear balloon and show it as our soul.

Make the silk appear inside the balloon to show how sin stains our soul. Tell them that asking God for forgiveness cleans our souls. Pull the silk out of the balloon as you state this.

I have to agree with this. Quite frankly I have never appreciated chopper tricks done for children under the age of 10 and this was BEFORE all the ISIS stuff. I remember being very dubious indeed when reading in "The Amateur Magician's Handbook" by Henry Hay that David Ginn recommended "danger" tricks such as these. I vehemently disagree although I have always appreciated Mr Ginn's other contributions to the art of children's entertainment.

Forgiveness itself is a very hard thing to achieve and alas a magic trick alone is not going to do it. And this goes for us all whether Christians or not. In fact very often religious people of every faith can be less forgiving than most. That is because some of them are extreme in their beliefs and feel that they have the backing of God in their lack of forgiveness. Atheists can be just as forgiving as Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus etc; if not more so.

It is relatively easy to forgive minor transgressions. Much harder to forgive the more serious stuff. Can you forgive an ISIS fighter for beheading a loved one? Can you forgive someone who rapes your daughter? Can you forgive someone who robs you of your life savings? It is a VERY difficult thing to do. Jesus said you should and he was right. He didn't tell you HOW to do it though. Fortunately other people have and they admit the difficulty too. There are a few authors who have written books on this subject from rabbis to psychiatrists.

Doing a magic trick trivialises the question of forgiveness. The odds are that one of the kids watching this will start fighting with another kid within 30 minutes of the show finishing! So much for forgiveness.

I can't tell people how to forgive either with or without a magic trick. It is the most difficult challenge of all and I certainly am not the most forgiving person myself. However, I can give you one little tip on the matter. It won't be enough but it is a start. You don't forgive to help the other person. You do it to help yourself. Yep. Forgiveness can actually be a selfish act. Odd isn't it?

Oh, one more thing. We often ask God for forgiveness. You know, sometimes I think it should be the other way round.

Thanks

I really appreciate the idea on the magic compass

I also make my own, but have never made the ones with a message inside.

It is great when folks share their creativity.
Along with great props, in my experience , it is good to share
Personally at the level of my audience.

Some are ready for "milk".

It is a blessing for me to give and receive.

Cafémagician, You’ve brought up some good examples of where it would be extremely difficult to forgive, and yet we are commanded to do so. Jesus (God) has set an extremely high standard concerning forgiveness. I agree that many Christians act unforgiving, but its not because a lack of instruction from God.

Our human sinful nature makes it hard,
with our new nature with the Holy Spirit, forgiveness is
possible even in difficult situation

When I buy new suit, I don't put it on top of the old suit.

Faith makes it possible for works that point to our
Savior Jesus.

An inventory taken moment to moment, at the end of the day and
periodically helps this writer.

By His blood........

Love and prayers

A great way to approach forgiveness is to say that you forgive everyone for everything. This includes forgiving yourself, which is actually a wise place to start. By doing this, you are not condoning their actions, which can be horrendous, but you are recognizing their divine nature, which was a gift from God. We left God in in the Garden of Eden, and entered the material world, which is far from perfect. However, God never left us. One day, we shall all return to God. "Return to me, and I shall return to thee!" Malachi 3:7 JR
