Sorry to digress, but yeah, of course Don't Look Now is good. |

No barge scene but some of the interesting elements of Don't Look Now show up in this trailer.

Although it's not a movie but TV series, Lie to Me is worth watching.

I would suggest Seven Keys to Baldpate which was originally a book, then a play then a movie beginning in 1917 with the earliest silent version of the film, Later versions were of the film were done 1935 and 1945. This way you will have some context behind the effect. In either the book, play or films a writer is presented a wager that he can not write a 10000 word book in 24 hours and given seven keys..... this recommendation is do in part to the last time I saw someone perform the Seven Keys effect without any context it was so boring I wanted to take a nap. Using a context such as this for this the seven keys the effect can be a full presentation which can conclude in a book text just by retelling a version of the story as it was when the original effect came on to the market. Which btw is a lot more interesting than some idiot trying to play around with a lock and some keys to show everyone how cool he is. If nothing else it gives additional context of how a traditional mental effect came about which in itself is interesting.

(The fact that he has the only key is what is supposed to ensure that he can write undisturbed.) In the course of the night, six other characters arrive and let themselves in. Each is convinced that he has the only key. Sincerely, Darwin Ortiz |

On Apr 13, 2015, Sensio wrote: I loved 'Magic in the Moonlight'; and I gather that Woody Allen did a bit of research as well as thinking into mentalism of the late 20's. In this case, the mentalist (Emma Stone) was more of a seer than a magician; and the magician (like Houdini) was out to debunk her,as Sensio suggests. BUT, I did not get a bitter taste, as the Stone character was not portraying herself per se as a 'mentalist'. She did not have a stage act (eg like Annemann), but held seances for big money! A very memorable line from the film was from Colin Firth's aunt who says "the world may or may not have a purpose, but it undoubtedly has magic." I recommend this movie; but not for watching mentalists at work so much as just watching a good movie. But as others have mentioned, 'The Great Buck Howard' is a must-see for a mentalist in action. As far as a must see movie is concerned, I would say "Nightmare Alley". An intriguing story about taking things too far and the possible consequences when you do..

Inception.
It’s a movie essentially about mind reading. It’s also a great source of inspiration for routine ideas.
