"Earworm is a powerful effect that does not look like an app and better still happens on the spectator's phone. Genius idea to say the least! Marc's magic has made me buy an iPhone."
- Angelo Carbone "Earworm is the best piece of iPhone mentalism I have ever seen. Marc Kerstein is an actual wizard. The rest of us are just pretending." - Stephen Long Earworm is a song prediction magic effect with a borrowed phone or tablet. You ask a spectator to take out their phone, mute the volume, and open their YouTube app (or, if they have it installed, Spotify, or even Rdio). Taking the phone so the spectator can't see its screen, you type in a song, press play and return the phone to your friend with its screen facing downwards. Whilst the song silently plays, you mentally transmit the thought-of song to the spectator. The spectator, trying to pick up on the song you're mentally sending them, names the first song that comes to mind. They turn the volume up on their phone and look at the screen to hear and see that EXACT song playing on THEIR phone in their YouTube app! * VERY easy to perform. * NO accomplice required. * ANY song can be named. * NO memory work. * Works with YouTube, Spotify and more! Note: Earworm is currently on a launch sale price at 20% off, for a limited time only. Download Earworm on the iOS App Store -

Purchased. My initial response is one of disappointment. I find the input methods to be unrealistic. The individual methods either need to be in a completely silent atmosphere, and you carefully choose your words (I imagine there is a MAJOR reliability issue here), or you bring your phone into play in an extremely non-justifiable manner that draws the spectator's attention to the method.
Confederate mode seems great, but I have no friends. Wish that the app store listing and the APPSolutely thread would have been more forthcoming about the elements in play. |

I take it back. It doesn't even work. Avoid this.

Robvs:
(I've copied and pasted my response here as you've written the same message across both of my threads...) I provide around 4 different input methods for you to use. Apologies that you have complaints about each - if you can think of a better one suited to an unlimited choice of song, please do tell me and I'll happily consider adding it. Note that the words you say in the presentation for the input method you refer to are fully customisable. So the amount of care you put in to choosing your words is up to you, not me. Regarding "It doesn't even work", perhaps let me know privately what's not working for you and I'll investigate it, rather than ambiguously (and publicly) claim it doesn't work. And sadly I can't do much to fix your lack of friends.

Rob, you're not new to magic. You must have realised there would be an input method so I'm wondering what you were hoping for?
Mark, What about a multiple choice input method (grid) so the correct button could be tapped whilst in the pocket. The spectators choice would have to be limited to a list of say 10 songs but it would be a very clean prediction with no phone in play |

Not everyone has a microphone and full control of the words of everyone around them. Forget about the fact that "Ace of Base" sounds like "Ace of Spades" for a minute, and the fact that Du Hast by Rammstein could pose major problems, but this effect is not being performed in a vacuum. I find this method CRAZY to even try. I find the Notes method to be silly. First, mine doesn't even work. At all. I got it to work 1 out of 20 attempts. And I put in Alive by Pearl Jam and it played "Black" by Pearl Jam. So still not exactly "working." Confederate mode isn't for me. But I got it to work 6 out of ten times. |

Tested on three different iphones as the magician's iphone and two different iphones as the spectator's- and every combination of iphone 4s, 5, and 5s available as both of the necessary phones.

I have been using the notes method on this and am happy with it, it has never been questioned as the app is already opened on their phone
The confederate mode I have yet to try as I am happy with the notes |

I LOVE this effect. I have played it about a dozen times over the weekend, using all four methods. Spec's phones have been from iphone 4 to iphone 6/6+ Have not yet tried other handsets though, as I struggle to recognise other makes and models! There has not been a moment where I wanted to perform it and could't though!
I have also used all three I put methods, just to try them out, but will probably use the note one the most, as I have justification for using notes, from other routines I do! Top job on a great app! |

Robvs I am not sure why you didn't contact Earworm support directly if you had a problem with working the app. There was no need to come on here a public forum and essentially expose the method. Am sure you wouldn't like it if someone did that to one of your marketed tricks. I had people email me directly if they had an issue with my app and that's what the customer service is for. Shame really! Earworm customer support should have been your first port of call.

This App is so versatile not only in what it can do but also the amount of ways you can do what you want it to do. It's like all effects it takes practice because you need to find the best way it works for different situations. Use the notes for when your in a situation that you know a pen and paper is not available. Use the voice recognition when your in a quieter environment and use a confederate when ever possible coz this way of doing it is a killer. So many different ways to execute the effect, how many other effects do you get that can be done in different ways....you don't even have to go with songs..how about Movies, actors, events, famous people ect ect. I can imagine that this is app will be updated regularly and fixed when any bugs do appear. This app will evolve over time into something really powerful. I hope mark makes a lot of money from this effect,I don't know the guy but this has obviously taken a lot of time and effort to get it where it is,but on the other hand I don't want loads of people to own it and know the method 😜 this is a great effect.....👍👍👍👍

My "exposure" did not stray much further from the things already in discussion between the two threads for this app, and they served to show that ad-copy statements don't necessarily hold up when features do not work. Feel free to flag it and I will then post a revision. But I think the creator would prefer that we start burying my posts within the thread. |

Today's update mostly fixed my problem. While I am not crazy about how inorganic the input method is, I can now report that the confederate mode works fine and 1 of 2 of the input methods "work" with some flaws. By flaws, I mean have you ever googled something and gotten whacky results? Well...this could happen with this effect so prepare an out. As I said earlier- Alive by Pearl Jam wound up playing Black by Pearl Jam. Not necessarily a glitche in the app as it is a glitche in the effect.

While I have criticized this app for not working completely, it should be noted that the creator is a "stand up guy" with a strong willingness to help work out support issues, as we have had private conversations where this has become abundantly clear.
