Hi friends,
I have seen David Copperfield doing a TV magic with the spectators at home using 9 cards. Here's a video of it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSZ1TXybDmQ I would like to know if anyone knows the history behind this effect and where I can read up on it? (if any) I know how this works and have been performing this but it intrigues me to want to know the history behind this piece of magic. Your knowledge is very much appreciated. Thank you. |

A few places to look:
Jack Yates' Miracle Mix-up in Volume 3 of Abbott's Anthology of Card Magic, SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MAGICIAN in Steve Beam's Volume IV of Semi-Automatic Card Tricks, THE NINE CARD PROBLEM in Jim Steinmeyer's Impuzzibilities (also in MAGIC magazine May '93), "King of Lies, Lord of the Flies" by Peter Marucci, "A Trick That Doesn't Use A Full Deck" at < http://www.joemturner.com/newsletter/2006/2006_04.htm> or <http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs048/1100414386218/archive/1101251210248.html>. Also, see David Solomon's Steinmeyer's Nine Card Problem With Seven Cards in Eugene Burger's Solomon's Mind ~ The Card Mysteries of David Solomon, pp. 19-22.
And, Jon Racherbaumer's Dunbury Lie Speller in Big Easy Card-Cunning, pp. 28-30.
