I aquired some more interesting older items from a friend on the weekend. Included several Tenyo items... Another mint unused Fantatsic... (amazing I spent two years tracking down a good copy and now two mint ones fall in my lap), a mint older Crystal Tube in packaging with tissue instructions, a sealed old Fanning deck with complete packaging and a mint What's Next with tissue instructions.I noticed on this older one the gimmicked "dots" are concave (the front is rounded outwards) versus being completely flat on the newer versions. I assume this was to conceal larger magnets they were using back then.

Very nice find! I believe I have a Tricks Co. version of What's Next that uses concave spots. Is that What's Next the smaller version that Stereo mentioned on his blog or is it the same size as the later versions?
It's always interesting to see the original versions of some of Tenyo's older tricks as they sometimes changed them after the initial release. By the way if you feel the need to get rid of one your extra Fantastics please let me know. I'm still missing that one. |

It is the same size as the one available now. Only difference is the concave dots, tissue instructions (with old logo) and the metal card is slightly off white versus the bright white of the newer versions. Will let you know if I decide to sell the Fantastics, would prefer to trade but what I need are the rare ones that everyone looks for. Still hold out hope that one or more might fall in my lap

The concave dots were deeper because of the magnets. This is the version you find most often because it was sold for so long. The one with the flat dots came out much later.

Any idea when Tenyo transitioned from "tissue like" paper instructions to regular paper?

I have the earlier version and need the instructions if anyone has them please PM me. Thank you!

Don't you guys mean convex?

Yes I'm sure they do. To be curved outward is convex and concave is curved inward.

I have been using the original What’s Next with the raised surface spots since it was first released. When I tried the newer flat spots, I found them to be more difficult to use. In fact, for me, there is no comparison between the two versions.

My What's Next that I purchased as a 14 yr old in 1982 is wearing out. Anyone have a source for either a new or slightly used one? Interested in the raised spots. PM is fine.
