Hey everyone, I wanted to get your feedback and ask if there're any restaurant-specific tricks you perform in your set. What I mean by that is something you perform only at specific locations because, maybe you have something set up with their specific decor, or maybe you've enlisted the help of some of the wait staff or something like that. I'd like to do something like that at my restaurant gigs and so I guess I'm looking for some inspiration. Even if you point me in the direction of something published already would be a big help. Thanks!
-Kris

Good Question
Some magicians might sell their services based on specific tricks for specific customers. Smart magicians WILL sell their services based on specific tricks for specific customers

At some oriental restaurants (Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian) I perform a series of tricks using silks, tissue paper, chopsticks and rings, cords and cylinders, satin belts, colorful tissue paper fans, etc. I use "Chinese coins" which are well-filed large washers which have been immersed in copper sulphate solution, to be copper-plated, etc. To my "oriental tricks", I added a small tissue paper version of the Afghan Bands. Such props are used in the specific restaurants to enhance the oriental atmosphere.
I always dress up in a bright green "silk" chinese gown, with additional pockets sewed on. Material for additions comes from the pants of the outfit, which I On my head, I wear a "solideo", which is a small cap, similar to those of the Jewish kipas, and the red headwear of Catholic bishops. That type of headwear is common in Geneva, Switzerland, where my grandmother brought it from. The tricks are standard "westerners", but they´ve been "easternized", to fit in with the setting. |

The pants portion of the Chinese outfit is used as matching extra material to build the magic jacket and its generous pockets. When editing, part of the text got lost...
Hopefully others will contribute to this interesting topic. |
