Hey all,

done some searching on the forum but just cannot find what I am looking for. Started a new project based on Shin Lim's table work but more importantly I am building myself a new table. I have a £15 small 15" x 9" mat which is great but I need something for a larger group now. Shin's description says he uses a website hygloss.com and purchases "paper velour" I'm guessing that's velour paper Smile however in the UK all I can find is "velour pastel paper" see link

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hahnemuhle-Velou......ur+paper

or up to 8" "velour paper" Went trolling through some fabric and hobby shops but I just cannot find what I think I am looking for. The issue is not just the mat, I am wanting a section of the same material to go over the top which isn't visible at short/medium range to hide cards under so I need to get it right. Normal paper wont do the job, I THINK velvet isn't rigid enough. I also want to cover the backs of some cards so they blend in with the mat for some special colour changes.

Does anyone have any experience with this and ideally have a UK site that I can use Smile

Thanks in advance

Twills.

I can't help you with a UK site, but I have lots of experience using velvet papers (velour).

Originally, I purchased in art supply stores. That's probably the same stuff you found on Amazon. It is for use with pastels and probably other "velvet" painting mediums. The sheets I got were (calling on memory) roughly 20" x 28".

I later found this stuff...

I was able to buy it cheaper. It had to be applied using a spray adhesive, which worked fine, but was messy and time-consuming.

I later learned of light-blocking paper, as used to line telescopes. It was self-adhesive, and great, but the source stopped supplying it.

Fortunately, I had already found pretty much the same stuff at McMaster-Carr, and that is where I buy now. I'm actually in the process of using some today.

Rockler also has self-adhesive velvet, and while I do order from the company, I have never used their velvet. It does come in a variety of colors, if that is something that would ever interest you.

I do not know if any of these companies ship international. You'll have to do your homework there.

Fantastic post thanks for taking the time to do that. I think the key part was the alternative wording as I didn't really understand the material I was looking for "velvet paper" appears to be the answer. Managed to find a 1200mm x 450mm black sheet for £11.. about $18 delivered. This is the closest thing I can find to what you and Shin are describing. Due for delivery in 2 to 3 days so will update Smile

Thanks again
