I am fed up with my forgetful assistant not triggering the remote control at the right time. I need to device a switch that I can secretly trigger myself when I need to. Can you advice on the best way to do this? I don't like a toe switch. Perhaps, a toggle switch so it won't be too obvious. What kind of a holder should I make for this? Also, what part of the body is best to attach it to? Thanks in advance for your help.

You have 3 options
A. Kick her in the shin when she forgets B. Threaten to deduct money from her pay C. Sew a small pocket in the side of your pants, so your fingers naturally fall 2 inches above the opening. That's what I have done, in several pairs, for my JSdkck. Just remember to turn at 45 degrees so the pocket is upstage.

I recently was informed that the knee position is good also, just bump your knees to trigger.

What's the remote for? It might help for us to know what's around you to put a switch on to.
I have two FOB remotes for the levitation I'm building and the idea is that I'll give her one to control her movement and put the other on the prop with a magnet so I can grab it if her battery were to die. The lights in the prop will be a switch that I'm going to either put in the floor, or behind me and I can lean back into it. A butt switch if you will

Chris, the key fob remote is for my new lie detector.

On my Lie Detector, I use a clipboard with all the questions written down. Then I hold a pen and pretend to take notes. Guess what the clip on the clipboard holds besides a piece of paper?

You could connect a Reed switch in series in the remote, strap this on one ankle - facing the switch on other ankle strap a somewhat powerful magnet. You merely have to bring your feet together a bit. I would experiment so the magnet is not too powerful to pulse the remote when just walking yet not too week where you have to suspiciously bring your ankles together.
If you are standing behind a table you can literally put the fob on the floor obstructed by the table or a prop. You would have to glue an 'extension' onto the fob button. sand the rubber button a bit carefully, cut a small square of wood about a half inch high and glue to button securely. When you wish to activate unit secretly and gently press on extended button with the front of your shoe where the toes are. I have used this many times when I do not feel like wearing a toe switch. I have the same problem and really do not trust an offstage assistant for the proper cue to hit the button, at least if something goes wrong with my own rigging I can blame no one but myself! Chuck |

Chuck... You don't trust offstage assistants.
I've got you best, I don't trust onstage assistants either !

Just thinking out loud, if I were to do something like this, I would try strapping it to my arm just below my elbow, and facing my body. Then I would rig up a large touch pad to increase the surface area of the button itself.
Then I would work out the routine so I bend my arm close to my body now and then, and hold it there for a moment: moving something, or pointing, or something similar. One of these times, I would press my arm a little more and hit the switch. Come to think of it, I could have one on each arm.
That's our departed buddy Burt, aka The Great Burtini, doing his famous Cups and Mice routine

I think the clipboard idea is the way to go.

I'm just putting the finishing touches on my lie detector. I use a similar method... I didn't want to use a clipboard though.
I took a stack of ruled 6"x4" sticky note pads. I glued them all pages together with a glue stick. Took the remote out of the housing and traced around it on the pad. Then I cut out the trace with a razor blade. I soldered a small momentary switch on the one channel I was using and traced/cut that out but not as deep. I put a small bend on the antenna so the pad could bend and glued another sheet on top to hide. I can then add sheets to the stack since they are sticky back. The buzzer is then operated with my left thumb whenever I want. Also, I programmed the buzzer and light to go off for exactly 1 second each time. I wanted it to be consistent and not based on how long I was pushing on the button. I also designed mine for future expansion if I want... knowing how I think, I don't have the idea yet but I know how to implement it when it comes.

My remote for my jumbo card in balloon is mounted inside the card box. I expanded a box that will fit the cards and the remote and since they have to pick a card I can hold box during the trick.

I bought a simple toe switch at www.tapeswitch.com for about $12. Pried open my key fob, and soldered it to the two leads. Took about five minutes. Placed it in my shoe and now I have a simple hands free remote by just pressing down with my big toe. Cheap, quick and easy. Fob is velcroed to my ankle.
