A few moves using the fantastic Disks I got from 3 Shell Al.
I sure those of you familiar will perhaps figure out what I'm up to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xhr16jAu......ad_owner However.......I have spent some time recently with a rather senior gentleman whom decades ago tossed the Monte for real. I found it very interesting, in that he told he would NEVER do the Hype at the beginning to switch disks/cards. Rather he would switch the disks/cards using some other method & then hype to prove what should be (albeit wrong) which I've done somewhat in the vid. He would only hype at the end if the 'moment was right'. Most of the routines I have done in the past relied on the hype extensively as I threw them down for the mix. IMHO he had a good point. Enjoy, Max |

Max,
You just keep getting better and better! This is a very entertaining display with the disks. I doubt that there are many that will figure out how you are doing it. As it is not the standard monte hype moves used all the time. Thanks for sharing your creative routine. I'm sure it will be enjoyed by many.

Thank you Steve and Al for the nice comments.
I'll try get a clip together in the near future of me using the Disks in an actual street festival show. That's where the real fun is to be had. |

I've recieved suprisingly quite a few requests for an instructional vid. Somewhat flattering.
I've performed Monte on the Street for years as entertainment. I, however, no longer use cards as the disks have several advantages including..... -no border like (bicycle) cards, black on black making certain moves like the hype more deceptive -double sided black for the 2 losing disks which allows false turnovers/aquitments -and they are heavy thus not affected by the wind which is a huge advantage for me. I use the Disks from magicswindles.com 3shellAl and luv 'em. Of course, monte does take a lot of work to perform proper and is not self-working, which is good IMHO. I've been contemplating putting something together on vid or PDF showing what I know and what I've learned from others. There is litle out there in the way of instruction at the moment, to my knowledge anyways. However if I do this it will be for the love of labor and not $$$ as it is a very small niche and it'll probably cost me much more in time and dollars than I'll get back. I also want to do it right so it'll probably take several months. I'll try & post another clip of a couple sweet moves, that I'm sure none of you have seen, in the next few weeks. One was shown to me by an Ol'timer who was very familiar with the working of 3 card Monte. I found the move works even better with the disks and is totally deceptive. Max |

Do you use the 2" disk or the 3"?Is one better than the other for certain moves? Thanks, Glenn

Hi Glenn,
I use the 3" disk for the simple reason that they are more visible for where I perform. I perform for larger crowds and the larger disk makes it somewhat more visual methinks. I have never used/tried the 2" disks so can't really give a proper opinion on them. However I think they would be great & perhaps better for somewhat smaller audiences such as table hopping, bars, close-up etc. I would also imagine they lend themselves to a variety of other moves due to their smaller size. They're on my to-get list Max |
