i guys, I have been interested in purchasing ACE by Richard Sanders. Then in another post here, many were promoting Double Back. When I looked at this trick via YouTube - it appeared to be the same trick. Is it the same? Any major differences? For those that use both, which do you prefer? Rich |

Hi Rich,
They're not the same trick, but they do use similar methods. "ACE" by Richard Sanders is a surprise transformation of four Jokers into four Aces. "Double Back" by Jon Allen is a gaffed version of "The Last Trick of Dr. Jacob Daley", which is a classic card magic plot (an impossible transposition between the red and black Aces). In Jon's trick, you perform a simple observation test with four cards, two Fives and two Kings. The Fives are placed in a spectator's hand (you hold on to the Kings). The Fives magically switch places with the Kings. In my opinion, they're both worth owning, but you'll get a little more for your money with "ACE", as the 60 minute DVD contains multiple handlings (six in total). But if you can afford it, I'd get both. Which do I prefer? Well, they both elicit equally strong reactions when performed well. I have developed multiple handlings of "ACE" and Dr. Daley's Last Trick that don't require gaffed cards, so I prefer performing these. |

I have used Double Back and Dr. Daley's Last Trick in many performances. While both get strong reactions, Double Back gets the strongest.

You may also want to consider getting "No Joke" presented by Rick Lax from Penguin. You receive the NFW set of cards (pretty much the exact same as Ace) and you receive several handling for that particular gaff. "Ace" also has several hand lungs in the DVD.

Thanks guys. 😀 Is ACE easy to master, I enjoy practice - but I want to steer clear of knuckle busting moves.

If you have intermediate card-handling skills, you'll have this performance ready after a couple of hours practice. |

Thanks. I'm trying to hold back and be extremely picky with what I buy.
I'm looking at either this or entourage. |

On Oct 3, 2015, SugarRayRick wrote: I would be inclined by that statement to choose ACE. Couple reasons. 1, it is a fairly new release and refills are readily available. Plus you can grab a cheaper set of NFW and get the same replacement gimmick plus many other handlings. I have personally never heard of Entourage before your other post and that is after 20 + years of a lot of impulse buys where it comes to packet tricks. (that doesn't mean it is not good, it just means it not as popular/famous as some others). Picky about the purchase, ACE or NFW/No Joke are proven killers and refills will be out for a long time (as well as not too hard to make if you are crafty). As for the Twisted Sister from your other post, I think Bannon made huge improvements with Duplicity being about the same bang for your buck and Fractal. I do not use Twisted Sister anymore for that very reason.

I agree with Poof Daddy.
Entourage is good but Ace gets much better reactions IMO. I also now much prefer Duplicity over Twisted Sisters. I like being totally clean at the end. |

Hmm thanks guys. Might have a look at duplicity.
I'm steering towards ACE now. |

As for the Twisted Sister from your other post, I think Bannon made huge improvements with Duplicity being about the same bang for your buck and Fractal. I do not use Twisted Sister anymore for that very reason. The difficulty with requests like this is that all of the packet tricks you've mentioned are very good. Which you buy should be down to personal preference and the performance conditions you find yourself in most often. For example, although I understand why many prefer "Duplicity" for the fact that all of the cards can be examined at the end, "Twisted Sisters" provides a much cleaner selection process and, when handled correctly, your audience will not want to examine the cards. For this reason I've never considered "Duplicity" an improved version of the trick, just a different solution to the same problem with a different set of compromises. "Twisted Sisters" is an excellent effect for a small parlour setting. However, if I was to perform one of these two tricks at a bar for my friends I'd perform "Duplicity" instead because it is fractal, and friends with a little alcohol in them don't always observe the performance boundaries that a formal audience would! I'm steering towards ACE now. Anyway, as everyone else has suggested, if you're getting a good feeling about ACE, then I'd go for that and maybe explore the others at a later date. |

For a long time I carried with me Double Back and NFW, two wonderful classic packet tricks. ACE is also pretty good and I think I've had most of the others mentioned here, especially the Bannon stuff…All great packet effects. You can't go wrong with any of them really. It just depends on what you like to do. I like to walk around and do magic, so Double Back and NFW were just perfect for me. They are relatively easy to do IMHO, just a little practice to them and you got yourself a couple of amazing, on-the-spot card tricks that absolutely blows people away every time.

I'll make it easier. Buy Double Back!
They are not the same at all. As was mention, Ace is a transformation of 4 cards for 4 different card. Double Back is a transposition of two sets of cards. I don't see Double Back as a packet trick though. I simply remove 4 cards from the deck and proceed to explain how magic is not about misdirection or quickness of the hand. Your choice of purchase should based on what type of effect and presentation you are after.

Double Back is a very effective opener when removing the cards from the deck. Doesn't come off as a "packet" trick as Jon said.
I use the jokers and then put them away when finished and can go into anything I want using a regular deck. FYI, purchased the effect originally and then had custom cards made for it later on. |

I find double Back a lot easier to do than NFW
