Which are your favourites?

I am interested only in the ones that you don't need much space at a table or no space. Things you can do in bars or on the street.

Ring off velvet cord comes to mind. You only need a shoelace or a velvet cord and someones ring.

Progressive Production is one of my favorite coin effects.

A single coin becomes 2 then 3, then 4 and then 5.

I have two different presentations which I posted on October 1, 2004 of the Perverse Magic thread of the Genii Forum.

This effect by Bob Carver appears on page 377 of Bobo "The New Modern Coin Magic" (it's not in the first edition or the paperback Dover version).

Various paddle tricks
Many rope routines
Close up linking rings
Mini chop cup routines on hand (I don't do this, but enjoy watching it)
Many various coin effects (as with chop cup)
Many various card effects
Some spongeball routines
Some mental magic effects
Some bar betchas
Some tricks that require a specific gizmo
Elastic/rubber band effects
Body tricks

If I could become master of the following (all of which I do, though mostly badly), I'd be very happy:
Fibre optics rope routine
Messado Rings
Holy Moly (Sankey washer effect)
Turbostick routine
In the hands spongeball routine
A dozen in the hands card effects
A cardistry routine
A couple of rubber band tricks (like CmH, or the venerable jumping bands)
Half a dozen betchas
A few mental effects (like ID, a bit of CR, various tears and swami effects, powerball style number effect, some mathemagics)
Two or three good body tricks
Three ball juggling routine

Many "seemingly new" effects in hands only can be achieved by simple changed the objects used.

the same sleights used ofr coins and ball can also be used with candy, buts, pencil erasers, bottle caps, coffee creamers, etc.

mastering about six ket methods is all that is required.

The fact that you are performing with "found objects" will increase the astonishment.

I always get great reactions with Gregory Wilson's Ring Leader:

http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/469

I actually peformed this completely impromptu once. A friend knew I did this and was telling his friends about it. One person was sure I use a special rope (since it was a borrowed ring). When I approached the table and did a few tricks, this person removed his shoelace and ring, handed them over and said: "Do the Ring and Rope thing!"

Needles to say, that was one of the most baffled spectators, I've ever had the priviledge to witness.

All the best

I have to agree with Aljaz about Ring Leader. After an hour of practicing, I had some really good looking effects. After a few more hours, I couldn't believe how convincing the illusions were. I now make sure to always have a ring and rope with me, and I love being able to do the tricks with a borrowed ring and string when someone is sure that mine are gimmicked somehow. Absolutely amazing stuff for close up, in the hands magic. As a bonus, there are a lot of effects where spectators hold on to the rope and sometimes even the ring, but it still attaches and detaches right in front of them.

Oh man this could be a long answer. To keep it short I'd say Triumph, 5 & 1 transpo, and anything with the Xpert

It's not hard to carry the following items.

1) Ring (on finger) and shoelace in pocket. Do a one-hand knot and make the ring appear in it. Continue with Relentless. Or use a light bangle bracelet. After either ring/string or bracelet/string, conclude with thumb penetration.
2) A few coins for a coin routine.
3) Jumping Arrow or two sticks (i.e. Darryl's paddles, if you can find them). Kids love this.
4) Some rubber bands around the wrist.
5) A card wallet with a couple of packet tricks. I carry "Ace" and Virginia City Hustle.

In all the above, only Virginia City Hustle requires a table or surface. Everything else is in the hands. Another good "in the hands" packet trick is Done with Mirrors.

With very little weight to carry, or pocket space used, you have enough "stuff" for a solid and varied 15 minutes of "instant magic".

Grismer, Nelson, and Clifton 'ring & string" stuff, and variations on the "updated sefalaljia" material, are my "anytime, anywhere" bits. A ribbon, shoe lace, or a bit of rope, and a 4" ring, are for larger groups...
