Work in progress,
But I thought I would share some images Designed so that you can install things, also printable to any size that is convenient. I am currently printing one, and I will post images after that is completed. Cheers, ThunderSqueak |

So far so good, I printed it in ABS so after I finish a few things with it, I will clean up the plastic and give it a vapor bath.
This is the image of the cup right off the printer, no cleanup has been done to the part yet. cheers! ThunderSqueak |

Looks good! So, is this printed mouth up or mouth down?
Also (hope I didn't overlook this in the other thread), can the printing process be stopped, the gimmick set in place and then the printing re-started so as to completely encase the gimmick? If I understood, the other cups would have a separate insert installed in one of them?

This is definitely printed mouth up. Otherwise the bottom would be an overhang which makes things a lot harder.

Well, that's why I asked, because the drawing shows a void at the bottom of the cup which would somewhat be the same thing, just smaller.

Unfortunately the gimmick would interfere with the print head during the print. I made. Small insert again which will be secured with both glue and then when finished with acetone vapor will be rendered invisible to visual detection. Acetone bonds the pieces together in such a way that they become one piece of plastic.
The cup is printed mouth up with a verry small support under the bottom. The indent gives the illusion that the bottom is thinner then it actually is. It also makes a nice place to put the load ball. Sorry about spelling and grammar mistakes. Answering from my phone Cheers! |

So, I decided to try one of the slower acetone vapor methods, so far so good.... but I think I prefer the faster heated method. I am impatient ^^

Then give that a small coat of acetone to smooth it out. In the meantime, I decided to make a wand. This time out of metal. The shaft is made from aluminum with the ends and middle fixed with chromed steel bushings to give it a bit of breakup and weight at the ends and the middle. On the inside I plan on using a couple of pieces of dual wall heatshrink. Sort of making it up as I go. I will post that up if anyone is interested. |

So this is how the prototype cup turned out.
All of the parts are smooth (including the bottom and inside bottom) and the cup is now 1 solid piece, with the gimmick installed. |

How much filament did it take to make this cup? Also, recently they added Delrin filament and metal filament. I doubt the metal filament is actually say copper or brass or like that. This does look very nice though. Was thiis make with a Makerbot machine?

If I print on a lower resolution, say 100 micron, it takes 80g of material, It really doesn't need that much material to be "solid feeling" however. I have been looking at the new copper filaments, I love how they look after being ran through a tumbler. They even get a patina on them after a while. the Bronze filament is the same way, actual bronze in the material so it gets that 100% metal appearance. |
