Welcome back for a while.
One of the last living 10-in-one performers. I wanted to be in show business the worst way, and that was it.

There seems to be a controversy here about someone doing Jimmy Talksalot material, but I'm having trouble following it. What happened?

That's some poop.

I've watched Jimmy's act a million times and I really can't see anyone pulling it off successfully, other than Jimmy.

Josh will not be successful for long, if at all performing something he ripped off.

Maybe he'll choke doing rope thru neck ; )

I bet Jimmy would not care if someone took parts of his act.

I don't think so either.

If he continues to be Jimmy, he'll only get so far.

Let's hope, for his stake, that he finds out who he is, while he tries on Jimmy's act.

Well you can steal an act but not the personality from Jimmy.

how many people do the six fruit finale for cups and balls. it is gazzo and everubody doing cnb thinks that is how a cnb should look like.
it is ethicks some people do not have it.

i learnded the 645 coins across from eddie fechter. first I did it like the routine said, I wanted to know why eddie did it this way. then I changed it to my person.

Folks.......it realy, really doesn't matter.

Stealing an act, borrowing it, altering it and calling it your own.....whatever.

99% of us steal use something from another...whether it be a line, a trick. clothes.

Nobody steals Gazzo's act. It is a marketed presentation, most of it from the Vernon routine.

Realistically the individual performing the act in question, will most likely move on in time and develop his own style.

However, putting his real name out there, with accusations on the internet...publicly. That I find much more disconcerting.

Well, I guess if Josh Balt stole Jimmytalksalot's act,
and there is nothing the matter with Josh Balt stealing another Performer's act;
then it should not really matter to Josh Balt,
if the name, 'Josh Balt' gets mentioned,...
when folks talk about stealing another's act,
...or?
Because, stealing another guy's work,
as it seems Josh Balt has done,
doesn't really matter. 🙃

hmm,...
I dis-agree.

Leave the Streets, for a minute.
Go into the Comedy Clubs,
where there is an un-written,
loudly spoken(!) rule:
"Steal someone's material,..you're out."
,...."out from here,...out from Clubs around the country."(!)
Enforced!
Where have our greatest Magicians from today,
watered their roots?
Harry Anderson,..?
David Williamson,..?
John Carney,...
Max Maven,..
Penn,..?
Mac King,..
Johnathan,..
,you get the idea.
Comedy Clubs.
,..there was a protection,..
they could work 'their' stuff out,
..refine it.

Still, 'the beast of the Streets'.

Stealing a guy's Act,
to make your bread,...
that's a bad meal.

I condemn it.

Ain't right,..
for either.

I find,
those condoling it,
are usually theives themselves,....
'Justification' makes a wet blanket more tolerable.
Those who have had something stolen,
know the pain.

The Beast of the Streets,
...makes one believe,..
'hope'(!)
for,..
a "Cosmic Justice".
,...a Universal Justice.....

I've been on a 'John Carney benge', of late.
,...great books of thought.
I just crossed pathes with this:

"Ironically, the thought that we might not be creative is the very thing that blocks us from being creative. You must cultivate the courage to try, to risk failure and to realize the consequence of any small failure in the context of an entire life or career.

This same fear accounts for much of the stealing in the world of magic. Stealing someone else's ideas is a form of fear. In stealing, the thief is denying his own self worth. He is giving in to the idea that he has nothing to offer. He has given up on himself." John Carney

Not bad.
Good luck(!).

p.s.: The complete article is entitled:
"From Acorn to Mighty Oak".
You can find it here: http://carneymagic.com/2829-2/
,....with other great stuff, to read,
as well(!). 🤓

There's a difference between stealing someone's act and performing material you purchased from someone.

Regardless, I try not to do anyone else's material for the reasons stated above.

I've found my own way in nearly all I do. Especially with the material I earn money with.
Only the rare routine do I still perform the way I purchased it.
Ironically, Carney's version of Cylinder and Coins is one I still do, essentially, right from his book (that I purchased).

Taking someone's act, lines, anything without permission is theft. Have some integrity. Have some class and do it right. I want to learn someone's routine then I honour that person by paying for it or becoming their student and having them teach it to me. This is how I learned Jeff McBride's version of the water bowls - The Rainmaker. It wasn't cheap but I learned the piece the way magic was meant that he learned. One on one from master to student. Sometimes I do Jeff's routine and sometimes I do my own version. Either way I sleep well at night knowing my integrity is intact. We need to stop making excuses for thieves!

I know all three routines very well. With the exception of the cigar production at the end, they're all very different.

Jimmy's is pretty simple in comparison but, next to Sonny, Jimmy writes some of the finest patter I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. Which, when coupled with the fact that he has more videos of his work on Youtube than just about anyone else, provides for the fact that ripping Jimmy off is pretty easily done if one is of an unethical or unimaginative bent.

Is your point that Jimmy ripped off Cellini and Sonny? If so, I can say un-categorically the answer is no.

Just saying

Here is a simple point Ted Brainard aka Kozmo, Sonny has Jimmy's blessing as to performance. Josh Balt doesn't as far as I'm aware.

Cellini felt ripped off by...fill in your own blanks Ted aka Kozmo.
