I just saw a video of the "Spring Snake Rifle" ("A rifle that shoots three large cloth covered spring snakes") for the first time:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PelLQyLf_z0 Looks very funny! Icke Picle sells such a Spring Snake Rifle for $75: http://www.icklepicklemagic.com/store/in......t_id=156 I would guess played right it would give a good laugh from any child audiences. Can anybody report her or his experience with that gag? Can anybody share a good/funny way to use it? |

Guten tag, Daniel
That prop was first advertised at least 30 years ago. I don't recall who first had it for sale. I've been using, professionally, a comedy balloon pump, made by Magic Inc. Chicago, since 1965. Ja! it is VERY FUNNY! (usually gets a show stop laugh!) The FIRST THING that I did, (after the first show!) was to sew the three snakes together, into ONE LONG SNAKE. If there are three snakes, they can "go" in three different directions! (Kids can grab them, and take them home for a "souvenir"!!!) I aim the pump, so that the snake goes STRAIGHT UP! --better visibility, AND, I don't want the snake to hit some youngster in "der" eye! (Lawsuits are expensive!) Soon after I began using the balloon pump, I devised a routine so that I could reload the snake into the pump as part of the show. (It's just as funny, reloading it, as it is releasing it! --and, it saves packing up time! (I "get" almost three minutes out of reloading!!!) The original pump came with snakes from the old SS Adams Novelty Co. They were covered in a DRAB CLOTH. I had mein "bag lady" re-cover the one long snake with very bright cloth. (The "hard part" about recovering, is getting the $$## snake into the cloth tube!!!

Hey Zauberer!
I checked out that clown supplies.com, and could not find any "comedy balloon pump props". The late Frances Marshall (Magic Inc.) first brought out the pumps in the mid '60s. (Jim Sommers made them for Fran.) I've used mine "since"! When Fran stopped stocking them (market saturation) she gave me permission to make them, as I was selling them when I did lectures. (I sold LOTS OF THEM!) I do have a very few left, and, I'm retired. They are "professional props". They WERE selling for $45. PM me, if you wish. I'll make you "a deal that you can't refuse"! The postage will probably be more than the prop price!!!

Hallo Kinderzauberer!
If you go to www.clownsupplies.com and just type the word snake into the search field and press return than you see just one product and this is the pump. Thanks for the offer I guess in the future I will send you an PM and see if you still have one to sell. |

The snake guns were made by Merv Taylor. Melbourne Christopher used one in his act at one point.

Well, Daniel. I am not sure if you took up Dick on his offer but I certainly did. I ordered two which I received today. These are awesome!
Just a few points I would like to make about Dick Island's Comedy Balloon Pump. First of all, you will definitely not get the same quality of construction from Clown Supplies. The balloon pump (not a real pump but who cares) is made of heavy duty metal. This thing will withstand years and years of use. Secondly, the snake is very long and is covered with a stretchy material which is quite durable and which has bright designs on it. And thirdly, Dick includes an excellent, well thought out routine......... what's a great prop without a great routine? Dick, many thanks for your Comedy Balloon Pump and Routine. And so many, many more thanks for all the contributions you have made here on The Magic Café and all that you have shared in your book which I will shortly begin to read for a second time from beginning to end (some sections I have re-read several times already). Just picked up an amazing spring snake/sausage gun. Alkazam made them. Fab has one new one for $100. Paul Howard has nice ones in stock and ickle pickle sells a rifle. I also built one out of pvc. I also have a snake cannon made of pvc. A trip to Home Depot may be all you need!😀
