Dear all,
I am currently considering adding either Vol.2 or Vol.3 of The Magic of Ascanio to my library. I have to choose one given the size of my budget. I already own Vol.1, and would like to choose the one which is best for learning about construction of routines, and to see Master Ascanio's theories in action. Given this, which one would you recommend? Cheers! I really appreciate it! |

I'd skip getting the other volumes. Volume 1 was much better than the rest. Go find Helder's book Reflections for some good Ascanio-like thinking.

Volume 1, which you already have, is theory. Volumes 2 and 3 are application of that theory to card tricks. Start with Volume 2, which, however, is out of print. It's supposed to be re-released on Nov. 30. I have one, with discount, pre-ordered from MJM Magic.

Plus, it's a great lesson, learning how Ascanio applied his thinking in practical, excellent routines. Honestly, OP, just look at the TOC's of each and see what stands out to you. They each have their own merits. One volume has a long dissertation on double handling. One has a number of O&W routines. One has several versions of Restless Lady. My favorite item in the book is his massive examination of Tamariz's Black Days. You get the picture. |
