Many good ones already mentioned. I'll add I'm Gonna Get You Sucka. The scene where Hammer slips on the bullet is breathtaking. I literally had a hard time catching my breath the first time I saw it, I was laughing so hard.

I want to add "What's Up, Doc?" from 1972 to the list. One of my all time favorite american comedies. Some 35 years ago, I even sat down to transcribe the script from videotape, just to find out the secret of how to construct and write an absolutely hilarious comedy classic like this one.

Going by Landmark's original criteria, there's got to be a spot for Bad Santa.

What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

"Ghostbusters," of course. The first one, I haven't seen the remake to judge.
One I don't think got enough recognition? "Dragnet." Ackroyd's spot on impression of Jack Webb, not to mention putting someone with Webb's button-down 50's attitude into a contemporary setting was golden. The use of a "Bond-style" evil organization like PAGAN might have been going too far, but I liked the movie as a whole.

I just watched Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure again and laughed almost the entire time. In spite of 1989 lingo, the movie's quotes alone are timeless. Lynn

My complaint wasn't that the new cast was women so much as they just dropped off the original story as if it weren't there. I understand their point, I just think there could have been ways around the "people don't believe in ghosts" without an entire reboot.

While I think the English remake "The Birdcage" surpassed the original by toning down some of the wilder slapstick and if you let Robin Williams and Nathan Lane lose on a set, you're bound to have a laugh riot, the original made me laugh out loud several times. I watched both the dubbed and the subtitled version and for once I preferred the subtitled. (I am the rarity in the house that I usually prefer the dubbed when we watch anime.)

"Love at First Bite"
"What About Bob?" Scenes with James Cagney from "Mister Roberts" "Hollywood Shuffle" (about a black guy struggling with stereotypes as he pursues an acting career - really good movie) "Watermelon Man" - Godfrey Cambridge - a successful, bigoted white insurance exec wakes up one morning to find he has turned black. Erin Moran (Joanie from Happy Days) plays his young daughter.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

But I'm going to go with "A Night At The Opera," just as funny, and the humor was more focused by the story and by the Marx Brothers actually working to help someone. This balance would wobble in later films, but in this one, they got it perfect. "Love At First Bite" is an excellent farce. If you can, try to see it on a cable movie channel as opposed to getting the film on DVD. Why? When they transferred the film to video, they DIDN'T get the rights to "I Love The Nightlife" for the dancing number. There's some original number there called "Fly By Night." It just really hurts the pacing of the scene.
