I just received my Devil's Hank (Corner) by Sumit and am very pleased with the quality and design, however I'm still brainstorming different, cool ways to use it and would like you to share your personal preferences and/or creative ideas for a production, vanish or exchange of objects/materials.
I personally like the idea of using it in combination with a Misers Dream flavor ending with a Jumbo coins production. I also want to try Unlinked rings to Linking Rings. I look forward to hearing your personal ideas/routines. Thanks. |

Does not sound like you are referencing what is known as the "Devils Hank", please provide a reference to what you are calling a Devil's Hank (corner).

From your description, it sounds like you have something that is similar to the Patrick Page Hanky Panky Cloth.
This cloth is used for the vanish and reproduction of items such as jumbo coins, eggs, balls, or any small item that would fit. Exchanges is not the best use of this cloth, as it is not make for exchange of items. The only similarity to the Devil's Hank is the fact that you can gather the 4 corners, then you or the spectator can reach in an re-produce the item. This is not the standard reproduction process, as other means are available as well. The great feature of this cloth is that an item is placed in the cloth, and immediately vanishes, the cloth can be held out open and snapped, then rotating it and snapped again to show the items is not in the cloth. Then re-produced according to which way you would like the do this, either appear on the open palm, or gather the corners. I like this prop very much, when Pat Page demonstrated it to me, I immediately purchased it as I could see so many uses for it. That is a rule I have used my entire life, never buy anything you do not have a use for immediately in your mind. If you want to link and unlink rings (not finger ring) then invest in a set of Linking Rings, and a good routine. |

Hi Bill. The one I'm referring to is the "Devils Hank Pro" ---> http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S18195
It functions in the same manner as you are describing (holding all 4 corners, vanishing, producing objects). I knew right away that I wanted to do some flower work with it to lead in to my flower routine. I also pondered the notion of a misers dream routine. The ideas are percolating in my mind as we speak. I was curious what other pro's were doing with it. |

Thank you for the reference, it looks like that design is different, as with the Pat Page Hanky Panky Cloth you cannot use more then one item.
I would use that with the classic egg bag, to vanish and produce an egg for a transportation effect of the egg from cloth to egg bag, and then produce a number of eggs for the child to hold, funny when they drop them. Wal-Mart currently sells bags of plastic eggs for just a few dollars, it is Easter time. It does not look like coins could pour from this cloth, so not good for a stream of coins as a Miser's Dream finale. As I don't know the details of the design it is hard to say. Just using it as a cloth, would be a good use as well, making loads not having to be on your person. Not attention is made to the cloth, as you are the magician, that can produce items under the a cloth that adds suspense to the production. I am sure it came with some instructions and ideas, just use that information to create your own use for the cloth. |

Thank you so much for the great advice. I do a lot of work with eggs (i.e - sponge eggs, enchanted egg, comedy egg can, silk to egg, etc). Love your egg bag transpo idea.
By the way... Huge fan of yours. |

I have often used a Devil's Hank with an Invisible Deck already loaded inside as a very convenient out for when a card trick blows up. E.g., you ask a spectator to cut the deck and he starts to shuffle it instead, or - horrors - drops the deck! Unable to continue the trick I then take out the Devil's Hank and show it is "just a plain hanky". I draw the corners together and ask the spec to drop an invisible (imaginary) deck into the hank, then pull out the ID from the hank and produce his original selected card from the dropped or shuffled deck.

I nearly always use a devil's hank for the ball vanish for Stratospheres. The hank covers the top of the tube on stage and seems like an after thought vanish compared to the box.

I'm actually quite impressed with the versatility and quality of the hank. Using eggs/egg bag with the hank, using as an impressive "out", using as finales, compliments to other routines, gags .. just so much. |

Does anybody have some good ideas for the use of the devils Hank for older, more mature crowds? I have a few ideas percolating but nothing that I'm totally satisfied with.
Thanks |

What do you mean, older more mature audiences. Your Hank is what we call a Utility prop. It can be used in many ways, with various effects, or stand alone as in a vanish and/or production.
All of the ideas mentioned were and are for adult audiences. If you do some research you will find that the Egg Bag is a fantastic adult effect, the invisible deck does not work for children as they don't know about playing cards yet. Unfortunately, no one has published a book of idea on the use of this wonderful utility item. I purchased Pat Page Hanky Panky for ball, egg, and jumbo coin routines, that I use or are in development. |

Anyone know a good source for a devil's hank with washable, removable pocket for vanishing "bandana" (banana)? Please PM me. Don't need CD. Just bought Siriously Vanishing Bandana, so I need only a good quality devil's hank.

Tommy Wonder's "Ring, Watch, Wallet" (Or Heist)type of effect comes to mind. I'd love to vanish things in the hank to have them reappear on myself with a really cool story. I'm doing the "egg" piece we spoke about above already with the kiddos and they're loving it, but I'm trying to find different unique, creative routines for this awesome utility prop as I feel Im not using it to its full potential. As you said Bill, there's not really much literature on the subject....so here I am. Any other creative, fun ideas and/or routines for a devils hank? |

Mr Busk, thanks a million. I used your idea in my last show except not as an "out". I literally had a spec shuffle some imaginary cards, throw them towards a regular hank (some great patter that I'd like to keep to myself) then reproduce them and do a variation of an ID routine using 2 spec's. The way my story unfolds includes the "pressure" effect whereby the deck ends up magically penetrating a normal blown up balloon.
But this isn't the best part. The best part is that I had a bill signed and vanished earlier then secretly loaded it in the Devil's hank also. So I once again showed both sides of the normal hank, produced 2 lemons and asked the spec to choose one (magicians choice), of course revealing the signed bill from earlier in the show. Thus, I put the hank to use 2 different ways in one shot and it KILLED. Thanks so much for the advice. |

Hi, trying to make a double pocket devil hank.
Satan hank, Japanese style, has two pockets at each opposite diagonal corners. I feel this is best for table work. I m more geared towards two pockets openings on the same ridge. If I m looking at the top of the square hank, should pockets (no sash) be: A: square B: triangle with the the diagonal pointing at the middle of the hank C: triangle with the diagonal pointing to the side? Thanks VG |
