Darwin Ortiz published 'At the Card Table' book a while ago. After this book, he released many more books.
So, is this book still relevant? Or all its material is improved in the later books? Thanks! |

But for example, Darwin released a dvd set in 2010 called Nothing but the best, and in it he shows various changes that he made throughout the years in some of the routines from several of his books. For example, Supercharged Nine Card Location from Lessons in card mastery is the latest handling for the original Nine card location. New Darwin´s wild card is another example. Some Changes are minor, some is bigger. The new Back off from Scams and fantasies with cards is a revamped version of Back Off, but so much better. Ultimate Fusion from the same book is the new version of Bold Fusion originally appeared in Cardshark. I have all the books and dvds and I can really recommend you to get them all. They are in my opinion the best books of card magic you will ever find. While you are at it, get Jason Ladanye´s book Confident deceptions also. Its superpowerful too! Jerry |

Nothing at all against the books Jerry cites (those are great and Darwin is an old friend). Just curious if Jerry has any of my books.

Hi Harry
Yes I have some of your books and they are great. Jack Carpenter is another favourite author of mine. Its just something with Darwin's and Jason's work that stands out to me. Its just my personal opinion. Maybe its because I use many of their technical moves that my vote goes to their work in general. I love Strong magic and Designing miracles and that is another reason why I feel like that. Jerry |

Here you have a content list:
http://archive.denisbehr.de/show.php?book=28 At the Card Table - I still recall when I bought this book mid 90s by a dealer here in sweden at a magic convention ( http://www.magicweekend.se/ ). When I started to explore the effects in the book I was surprised: the books was a goldmine, only blockbuster effects. The first trick I learnt was Jumping Gemini - a superb effect with only four cards. That book changed my cardmagic forever. The effects are still relevant today and in the future. Up to this date I have collected every single product from Mr Ortiz and I´m glad I did that, his cardmagic is outstanding, sure. And, I have several of Mr Lorayne´s books too. Great cardmagic books too. My first English magicbook I bought was a book from Mr Lorayne circa 1980 translated to Swedish by Åke Hallberg. And now its 2017! |

At the Card Table is still relevant. Darwin's later books, as
far as I can tell, include entirely different material as opposed to improvements on existing material. Having studied Cardshark first, I found At the Card Table to be eye opening. For instance, Darwin mentions the pinky count in Cardshark, whereas he explains it in depth in At the Card Table. As a long-time dilettante, I highly recommend both books in conjunction. They are complements not alternatives to each other. Here is a 29-minute live performance of mine: https://youtu.be/lq2Rj1uf05M I used to be quite sensitive to criticism; I am much less so now; so, please do criticize my technique, presentation, and posts. It helps me to grow, and I promise to take responsibility and not to be defensive. |
