Hi all,
I'm looking for your thoughts on the handling of this open travellers / invisible palm aces effect that I put together for myself. I'm trying to eliminate a lot of the "hiding" that goes on in these sorts of routines, so I'm running it starting off with just the four of a kind, no extras, and going from there. I know that the "reveals" of the aces on the table aren't the greatest looking, but for that I blame the lack of a closeup mat, and my super slick stainless steel kitchen countertop. At the time, they wanted to stick... Thanks very much in advance for any ideas, thoughts, input, or advice, Scott. |

You fooled me with the final Jack. Bravo. Yup. I enjoyed
that. It was deft, crisp, not without room for improvement, and worth keeping and tweaking for the long haul. I'll bet you doubled down on practice for the throw off that landed the third Jack. All it needs is looser looseness, which will come naturally with time in practice. Here is a 29-minute live performance of mine: https://youtu.be/lq2Rj1uf05M I used to be quite sensitive to criticism; I am much less so now; so, please do criticize my technique, presentation, and posts. It helps me to grow, and I promise to take responsibility and not to be defensive. |

Beautiful.
I did think that the counting of the cards distracted from the other very elegant moves. My recollection is that Paul Harris' similar structure didn't include the counting. Jim |

I loved it. Awesome use of Tenkai, totally flew past me.
One little thing I could suggest is that once you have the four of a kind out of the deck, placed on the table to clearly show them, don't bring too much attention to there being only four cards. Even if you're telling the truth, the spectators mind could easily challenge this and think otherwise. Thanks for sharing! |

That was great!
I love your solution for the final card. I never liked how most versions rely on picking the deck up again for no reason at all. I guess the count could be eliminated since the opening display is so fair and the steal is perfectly timed, no one will catch it. |

Good thinking on the final card. I think that a dupe of the final jack onto a face down deck would work too.
David Stahl has a cool item in "Don't Stall Stahl" that's a variation on the "Bird Cage Vanish" that would be a nice alternative to the vanish at the end. Mike

I echo most of what the others said. The final vanish is of course great!. Good thinking ☺.
But I felt like there was rythm and flow missing to the routine. I will watch it again later and comment more specific |

Really nice. I admire the double flipped from hand to hand but personally, I wouldn't do it. It seems like over proving. I also wouldn't talk about which jacks were on the table and which are in the hand. I would just say "that's two jacks, here goes the third".
You are right about the reveals and they might work better on a mat but I never use a mat and admire that you did this without one. If you put the heel of your hand onto the double card with your hand at about a 45% angle and then press down it will separate that double fine with no mat. If your hand goes directly onto the double cards no corner will stick out to be seen. One more piece of advice from a restaurant performer. If you try this with kids around they will spot the doubles almost every time. They have eagle eyes and are low to the table. |

I have watched the video several times now.
Handling The handling is very good and has some nice touches. - hiding the extra card in the beginning got me - very clean - the double handlings in the off hand (left hand) while something happens in the center is subtle and good. It adds to the illusion! - The proximity of the deck on the table to the cards where they appear bothers me a little - because the picture you create for your audience is not as clear, as when there is more space around the arrival packet. Perhaps you find a way to place the arrival packet in a more visually isolated spot. I would not recommend moving the deck during the routine to achieve this ... it brings unwanted attention to it. - The ruse with the face-up Joker is a clever construction, I like it a lot in this routine. - I personally find the tenkai vanish you use here not that good - let me explain why - the card is at a 90 degree angle to the hand you pretend to palm it in. When you do the move, I get the feeling that it looks fishy, because you fold the card is and not up to the hand. The spectators don´t know whats happening at this point, they can only say if it feels right for them. At this point all attention is on the card and I think, that this could make them frown. It´s a small point, but one we should never underestimate as a magician. You counter that momental frowning with getting rid of the card and all the presentational parts of transfering the card, which is good. All in all a very nice handling. Presentation - Your voice and the speed of your movements stay the same through the whole routine. You can create a much more interesting bit of magic, if you change your tone and the speed of your voice. You can even use it to create more attention where you want it. Try playing around with the speed of your movements - slow some down and speed others up. On a subconcious level it makes your magic more interesting. Just my 2 cents Bye - Markus |

Hello all,
I've taken careful note of all of your suggestions, and I promise to keep trying them out and working on this routine. In the meanwhile, I've thought of an interesting variation that you may enjoy! (and the reveals look much nicer) Thanks again for all the comments and input! Scott. |

The variant is clever. To my mind, this sort of thing is strictly for magicians. For laypeople, I think it overcomplicates an otherwise straightforward effect.
Very good handling and the reveals do look better. There is a pretty big flash on that last vanish. (Watch the bottom of the deck) |
