Effect: a selected, signed card is placed face up in the center of a deck, boxed, and put away in a coat pocket. A deck of a different colour is then pulled out of a back pocket, and is immediately spread to show that the signed card has appeared in the center of the new deck, face up- the only odd-backed card in the new deck.
This is based on a crazy variation of Ken Krenzel's and Harry Lorayne's effect, Tidal Wave (Apocalypse magazine Vol 6 No 5 May 1983). I've changed the handling and basic effect itself from an impromptu "brainwave" trick to an impossible transportation of a signed card. In my variation, the card is signed, the decks "change color", the decks are in proper-coloured boxes (you'll understand if you know the handling of the original effect), and even the card on the face of the pack changes from deck "one" to "two". What I really need, is a reason to do this in the first place. So, I ask you... how would you script this trick? Scott. |

Scott,
My first thought would be to take it as a "Your Signed Card" approach. For the reveal I would spread in the hands showing the red backs, then let their card's index show without revealing the signature. At this point tip the fan towards yourself revealing the single blue back. Finally, pluck the blue card from the fan and turn it over to reveal the signature. In regards to the actual script I would proceed as you have up until the red deck is introduced. Once you pull the red deck out say,"Now, I have this other deck where Ive made a prediction. You'll notice it's red so we can tell the two decks from each other."(unboxing and spreading) As you show all red backs you will see their card in the middle and say, "I reversed one card in the deck and it matches your selection" pause for a beat, then reveal the blue back and say, "it even matches on the back." Then pull their card out while laying it face up on the table and say, "it would only be a true match if it also had your signature." |

Thanks Rick,
I like how you would reveal it in stages, that makes sense. I'll definitely use that advice. I think I've been watching a lot of Ricky Jay and Eugene Burger lately on youtube and DVDs, because I'm getting really critical of my scripting and am looking for more of a "story" or something like that, instead of just talking about a signed card that nobody really cares that much about. Still, what you wrote is better than what I said, so I thank you. Scott. |
