Ahhh - the Too Perfect Theory, that should keep this thread going for a while! Very thoughtful magicians have written quite opposing views on this but I think Tommy Wonder proposed there is no such thing as a too perfect effect - merely weak or imperfect methods, in this case a Tattoo immediately suggests the card was forced, there is a direct line from the effect to the method. In presenting such an impossible effect the performer would have to "prove" without a shadow of a doubt that it was a free choice - say by a spectator thinking of a card, or tossing a ball around the auditorium and narrowing the choice (which also refutes the next obvious suggestion that it was a stooge). This shows why starting with the effect and working back to method is perhaps better than starting with a method and looking for an effect?

Maybe showing that there was no tattoo before the effect, not stressing it, but somehow proving it, remarking the initial situation so the end situation appears more magical
