Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone know if there is a whiteboard version of spirit slates on the market. For what I have in mind, the usual chalk ones will not do the trick (pun intended.....groan) thanks in advance |

Yes, Picto Transpo by Gene Anderson.
http://www.geneanderson.com/pictotranspo.html I was lucky enough to go to the Video recording of his instructional DVD. What a great afternoon with a super nice and funny guy (but Magic audiences don't need to be told this). There is built in comedy and charm in his routine. Gene gives some great advice on how to handle every aspect of the trick. It is very direct and clearly presented. He goes into some other versions of the slates and gives an historical context as well. Great Trick! I don't know if I've seen the newest generation of this trick but the one I saw used a "white board" material and used expo marker cleaner to clean up. It was a messy process but a terrific transposition. Perhaps the newest version has an easier cleanup. I believe Gene used to work for 3M and so has a great working knowledge of the materials. I love the trick. -Mary Mowder |

Remember that white boards as a rule tend to reflect and glare in real lighting conditions.

White paper, especially drawing paper, is a sensible and effective replacement --even for situation where white boards or slates would work. But in my experience, under spotlighs and/or if some of the audience are a bit far (6 m --that's 20" -- or more), you don't want to use white glossy reflective surfaces that'll be impossible to read.

Once you are aware of that, you can make sure to tip the pictures all around so that people get a clear look. The picture is never on an easle soo you won't have one or two people getting the glare for a while. Just keep it moving a little relative to the light source.
