Dear Café members

I recently bought a second hand large Harakhan appearing bird cage from Hocus Pocus.

It is in very good condition, but I'm finding the "appearance" unreliable.

Even if I twist the cage open very hard, it only opens properly about half the time.

I'm going to try replacing the elastic on the perch. I'm hoping this should help snap everything in place.

Has anybody else had any similar problems? Any other Harakhan cage tips will be much appreciated!

Best wishes

George

George, I've had this problem with other cages and this seemed to work. A small (very small) drop of oil on the pivot points should allow your cage to open smoothly. Again I stress very small drop. If you use too much oil, the cage will want to continually open prematurally rather than staying closed until needed. You don't need to oil very pivot point however. If you use this method, just oil a few pivots and see what happens. You might to wait and see if anyone else has any suggestions before trying this.

I put a small bit of sand paper on the perch so the bird could better hold onto.
Instead of oil you might try a little talcum powder to make the contact points more slippery.

I am very familiar with this, I went through this 18 years ago.

To answer to your question, there are TWO versions of Harakhan bird cage

Version 1- old model - build very early date till the early 90s...2 silvery straight Colour metal that hold the 3 sections white Plastic perch - you need to twist to pop open, very very difficult to do, sometimes, you twist, n it open halfway, twist too hard, the 'metal socket will come off, n it is not visually fast n if perform tv , it can be seen if playback in slow motion, do NOT get this old model no matter how cheap it is .

Version 2, the New model build in the late 90s, 2 beautiful brass curve/straight metal hold the white plastic 3 section perch...AUTO OPEN , very very fast opening! NO need to twist , to hold ( Velcro fastener straps to lock close , I build a Velcro fasten strap In a silk, just quick release the Velcro, the cage pop open fast, this is how a cage should build.

The story, I bought the cage (version 1) at USD395 plus shipping from a dealer but very sad when received, I twisted till my fingers pain n swollen but the cage usually open hallway most of the time, the final straw where I twist too hard n broke the metal pivot straps...I almost cried cos is so expensive

I send back to .Mr Harakhan (a very old man at that time, now sure now......) to upgrade the New cage for me, it was so much superior n beautifully than the old version, the BEST cage I have ever seen n used.....after all this years, now is finally up for sale if anyone is interested, is like Brand New condition , please pm. Me or you can search 'joe Yu 'under Facebook, will show you video n photos, as I seldom log in here now

PS- Doveworkers like Jason Byrne , Tony Clark n Joseph Gabriel is using the exact cage in their Dove act

PS- for anyone interested in this cages, beware n understand there are 2 versions , never never buy the first older model, hope this helps Smile
