It's sad that some people have to feel the need to reduce this to explaining methods, props and where to buy this and that.
Why can't we just leave it alone and enjoy the elegance and astonishment that we all felt when Eric Meade performed it and the respect of Tim Conover.

As to why can't we just leave it alone...that's not the way it works, unfortunately. In fact YouTube's gonna have a FIELD day with this... Doug |

That was absolutely beautiful. What a treat to watch. Especially love Mead’s even, deliberate pacing, confident but friendly demeanor. With little gestures and flashes of unexpectedly empty hands, he stays way ahead without missing a beat in his smooth verbal presentation. Think if someone ever asked, “What is all this I hear about magic? What is it?”, this is one of the clips to show.

I suspect what MacDonald does is significantly more technically difficult than "The Miser's Dream" with coins. Yes it's the same "many things from nowhere" idea, but I think that's where the similarities end. It's a great effect, made even better by the different types of things that appear (hats, skulls, bags of money, etc).

Anybody catch Mead’s five second clip of Triple Threat/3CM (not sure exactly which Eric uses) at the introduction section of the Fool Us episode? It’s around the 30 second mark. Only a few seconds yet pure poetry. I’d love to see a full performance of his TT/3CM routine.
I saw Eric perform Kohler’s U3F at the Castle back in the day. So good! Fortunately you can see him perform that routine on a TED Talk. Perfection. |

I hope Eric is well and the book project is proceeding.
If you want to work on the trick in the mean time - a Boston box will get you the effect - but that's not much help when it comes to getting the audience to enjoy four coins vanishing. Or to leave the impression that your hands are empty after the last of the four is gone. You can read a version of the trick in The Modern Conjuror. You can read the maneuvers used by Ramsay in the Farelli or Galloway books. That won't get the material working as it did for Ramsay or for Conover... or Eric Mead. You can ask Ramsay's student Galloway for help getting through the routine as it was passed down. What seemed to work for Ramsay was that he came across as genial - the nice shopkeeper with a twinkle in his eye. He wasn't changing his flow of action from talking to doing something with the props. He didn't wait for the audience to look like a deer in the headlights when the magic happened. He knew when his trickery worked as planned as folks looked down the garden paths he planted earlier. Eric Meade can tell you how he presents his routines when he wants to. That audience-centric work is more the secret to the trick than cardboard tubes, a slice of cork, or well worked coins.
...to all the coins I've dropped here
