What Spirit tie did Mike Bliss use on the September 28 Penn and Teller Fool Us show?

Mike did the simple "Wrists on Knees: in-again-out-again Spirit Tie" (credit to Billy Bishop)...
which just proves once again - that the "Fool Us" program has evolved into nothing more than a "showcase" for performers to advertise themselves and their acts. That said, Mike Bliss did a fine job...but expecting to actually FOOL Penn & Teller with it?....No way. |

P&T Fool Us has always been a showcase. The "fool us" aspect is literally just a hook to get people to watch, I believe. P&T want to see good magic performed, they want good magic on TV, and they want to help other performers get some nice shiny spotlight.

I must have missed it - what was "the twist" ? He does a watch steal on the woman to his right (Vanessa) but it is not referenced in the rest of the act. I assume that "the twist" would have related to that but has been edited out for some reason. |

But that may have been that I was waiting for a twist to blow me away. Why leave the "with a twist" bit in the interview at the start but not include it in the edit of that actual performance? |

I had been able to search on Youtube for "Mike Bliss" so have seen the "act" that was in the link you posted. Still, can not see anything other than a in-out rope tie (and once that first hand is out we know he can get out so there is NO suspense, a lack of any escape skills as there is no surprise because we know he can get one hand out already. It takes an escape and makes it anticlimactic and out of the realm of escape as a pure art. Up until the first 'hand out' moment I was enjoying his personality and he is very energetic and I can imagine people enjoying watching him perform. But for a short "escape" performance with a twist - well there was no twist in the video on youtube - not sure if it was aired when it was on TV. |

I agree that it did seem anti-climatic. It also seemed odd that he did not make any attempt to hide the dirty work from the two assistants.

To each their own.
I posted it so you could see it, I did not say I liked it. I largely agree with Dave's review above. It was cute. It was fun. It filled the time. and yes, I do like his personality and energy.
