Does anyone know if a motorized haunted deck exists?
I'm basically imagining something like a devano rising card deck but instead of using gravity to make the card rise, you could place the deck flat on a table and have a small mechanical or electric motor cut the deck and push out a selected card. Thanks

Not a motorized deck, but the "Paramecium Deck/Pack" gave the desired effect.

I think that Cinerod (Canada?) (wrong spelling) used to sell a COBRA DECK that was similar to what you are seeking.
I could be misremembering. Julie |

Not motorized, but I did know a fellow who had a gimick he would put onto the deck so it would part when he slightly shook or pounded on the table. He usually pounded on it enough to jar the cards.

I bought a cobra deck many years ago (1978). Yes it is a Cinemod release, copyright Dom Paolino. A motorized tally ho deck. And it works. But I never use it and I would never use it. If someone use it in close up, let me know.

Looks like Tannen's is also selling an exclusive "Double Cobra Deck" (finds two cards).

I owned a Schwartz Cobra Deck many years ago and, sadly, lost it when we moved. It was a wonderful mechanism and paled in comparison to the one I ordered from Tannens recently. Yes, the new one is from Schwartz as well, but in my opinion isn't nearly as well made and came in such a state that I needed to almost rebuild it. I feel you jondark & the Cobra Deck by Martin Schwartz was a beauty! My deck, after some 20 odd performances, gave out when the rubberized overlay on the motor gave out and I was unable to turn the k-- to w--- it into proper pressure. I truly miss the Cobra.
We often feel like 'days gone by' are the best of our journey through life - and I can't argue with being happy walking up the hill & down. Really appreciate your sentiment, jondark, as we make the best of today and what is left of our tomorrow's. Hi Juno...nice sentiment. Curious my what you mean by the rubberized overlay? I have the Cobra and several other Schwartz decks but not sure what that is. My Cobra is still going strong after 15+ years... knock on wood

Hi
I have been working on a rising card for some months now after years thinking about this. Thought I would check in here and see what you guys thought. Long ago I had a couple of Devano decks. I loved the trick but keeping the deck tuned was very difficult. I have always dreamt of a solid rising card mechanism. Here is what I am coming up with. 40 Megahertz processor. SD card to hold the control program. Two electric motors. Li Po battery to supply about 40 performances. Charge by plugging into a USB port. Gravity switch turns system on and off. The gimmick would be about 15 cards thick. The two motors provide the ability to move two sets of cards up and down. I suppose the deck could cut itself lying flat on a table several ways if desired. Pull the SD chip from the deck and plug into a PC. Program any desired sequence into the chip and plug back into the deck. The deck is always off. Turn the deck over and the program begins to run. The goal is to create a solid professional mechanism for the serious trouper. I am trying to use industrial grade materials for durability. I plan to supply extra motors for those emergencies. I presently have the CPU board, motors, and driver board. I have been busy bringing up the CPU attempting to get control over it. It is a real pain in the neck but I got it working. My next step is to establish passing FAT files between the PC and the deck CPU. Considering rubber or pins for the driving wheels. Anyway, curious what you guys think. If much is said here, it will drive me forward in this project. It is very difficult. Al

Hi Al:
Sounds amazing and something I would be interested in for sure. Not sure if you have had an opportunity to see the deck Marc Antoine has made and sold. It is very good and has three phases controlled by a remote. The one downside to Marc's is the motor while state of the art is fairly noisy. Your concept sounds like it would offer more flexibility on the timing and types of animation and hopefully quieter. John |
