The problem with many of the spirit bells on the market imo, is the unnaturalness of them. http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S15618 Where have you ever seen such a thing? That is! Until I saw this; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfG1n8jsGNM It's really the only thing I'd even consider using.

I could not agree more about using a bell that actually looks like a bell. That is why I created, Death Toll: http://taylorimagineering.com/shop/death-toll/

Here is a clip of a spirit bell I built awhile back...actually a spirit type box, when items are put into it strange things happen. The bell can be examined before and after and yes the noise is coming from the inside of box when bell is placed inside. You may recognise a few classic effects I incorporated and modernised.

Hi Christopher by the look of it and the toe switch I do like the Death Toll, just one more thing, can the bell be checked properly by the audience?

I guess that depends on what you mean by checked "properly". Can you be more specific? You can place the bell into a spectator's hands and have it ring and all will be fine. You can remove the dome with a spectator standing beside you and nothing will be seen. If the dome is removed and a spectator picks it up and starts to examine it carefully, then they might find something. Cheers.
