By the way, Bobby Hasbun was one of the guys who discussed The Black Hole during the illustrious annual Autumn People’s Gathering, last October. Since he is experiencing problems with his TMC-account, he told me that I could state that he was very intrigued by the effect! He had some very good ideas for the effect. Also Dr SH suggested a great alternative handling, which has been included in the manual.

Big congratulations, Luc! Seems well deserved—this is a hauntique that oozes authenticity. Guess that means there will be another run for those poor unfortunate souls who missed it this time..? I am very excited to receive my set, once your postal service allows it to depart! 😛

From everything I have read here I think this sounds wonderful and possibly would be in my " roundhouse",.. but I am still a little vague about the general premise of the effect and would like to make sure it fits me. My persona and performing style does not fit/suit doing "seance" type effects. Examples of what I enjoy, do, prefer and fit are Cuss Cards, Dopps, Sailor's Purse, Story of Jonathan Harte, Knowing Game, etc,...so I would like to see a brief review by new owners or some comments to help me decide if the Black Hole is definitely for me. Much thanks, Bill

Well, I'll just say it. I was the lucky participant in Luc's lottery and won the special box...weeks ago...but only tonight did I have a chance to open the package and revel in its contents.
First, let me say that I deliberately delayed opening this package because I knew I would need to spend some time with it. Tonight I had some time. Second, let me say that I am first and foremost a collector and hobbyist. But I am also a designer and ex-woodworker, and have been collecting both traditional and bizarre props for quite awhile. So while I consider my comments as a collector to be on point and reliable, I also realize my commentary pertaining to performance lack personal experience and are based on conjecture...so that's me being transparent. Now, having read the first and second points, let me tell you about point three. This prop, routine, and effect are works of passion. And the commitment to making that passion a reality are apparent. One can tell that Luc has put so much heart into this release in every aspect of its creation. The thought put into the story line, the history, the research, the sourcing of the right props and materials...everything...all comes together here into one lovely, dismal and depressing, lovely and uplifting piece of story telling. I became teary eyed just reading the background of this presentation. It's heartbreaking and like the best bizarre presentations...historically and painfully accurate. I realize that I will only perform this for friends and family, but I know enough about the presentation of our art to say with confidence that in this offering, the performer is given every possible opportunity to execute a small story with a powerful effect, or a larger tale with multiple effects. You are provided with a utilitarian gimmick that can be used as instructed, or in an infinite number of other ways. Plus...you are supplied with an array of ancillary props which for the most part, are original, and absolutely wonderful as tangible objects alone, but can then be utilized in whatever other effects the you may wish to demonstrate. Congratulations Luc. You have created something very special here for the bizarre magic community. Your diligence and passion in research and recollection are evident, and help make this prop a gift to our small family.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

I do industrial safety training and keynotes and I immediately thought about how this could be woven into a closing story about the safety related choices we make at work, and that things shouldn't be left to chance. It's such a perfect match for a believable and memorable story with an interactive element to it. I'm totally looking forward to working this into my future presentations. Well done Luc.

Hi Luc, I missed out on the first run, but not this one......my order is already in with Dan.
Wizard of Oz, many thanks for your detailed / helpful review. Like you, I am mainly a collector / hobbyist with a passion for well thought out and carefully put together bizarre effects, like The Black Hole: A Coal Miner's Lament. I now eagerly await its arrival. Bill |
