Hi everyone,
The Test of the Tiber is a very clever stand-up divination created by the late, great, Theo Annemann. Originally, it was a very clean book test that Annemann used to divine a name from a page in a phone book. The spectator, alone on stage, would open the book, and then look at any name on the page. While standing in the audience, the performer would reveal information about the other names on the page; producing a string of hits; and then finally the thought of name would be revealed. The clarity and psychology make for a very strong effect with stringent conditions. This effect, along with Annemann’s method, were concepts that very much interested the late David Alexander, who, before his passing in 2010, complied all of the published information on it. Mr. Alexander also compiled his own thoughts and ideas on how to perform this. Additionally, through his research, David discovered a squeaky clean billet switch that Annemann tipped to Al Baker which remained unpublished. This switch was not included in the original - Annemann wanted to keep this for himself. This work would have been lost into history until David’s widow, Cassidy, gave David’s notes on the routine to his good friend Thomas Baxter, performer and author of several fine books on mentalism. Tom is releasing the work in a 22-page ebook entitled The Test of the Tiber – Revisited. Included: everything published on the effect from Annemann onward, David Alexander’s thoughts & tips, the Baker billet switch, and the handling that Tom uses in his shows. Tom just let me know taht the switch I talked about above is actually Al Baker's, and not Annemann's.

I just read 'Test of the Tiber (Revisited)' and am very impressed with it. It's a worthwhile item for several reasons.
1. The effect itself. It's very clean mentalism. Spectator A initials a slip of paper, B writes a number on it, C writes another number on it, then hands it back to A. A opens a phone book to the page indicated by the first number and to the entry indicated by the second number. The performer reveals the name -- and the phone number. (It can be done with any book, not just a phone directory.) 2. The manuscript makes the effect practical by providing the previously missing (or suppressed) information (which may be the reason it's so rarely seen). 3. Completeness. The manuscript contains Annemann's original description, an additional note by Annemann about pumping (and its psychology), and complete instructions by David Alexander, including the mechanics of the switch (clearly described and illustrated with color photographs). It's a great addition for mentalism- and Annemann historians! 4. An additional routine by Tom Baxter. Its effect is broadly similar to Test of the Tiber but uses a very different method. It ends with a design duplication instead of the phone number revelation. It's very clean and has a modern, snappy feel to it. I highly recommend it!

From London Ervin, with his permission:
I just finished reading through twice an ebook from Thomas Baxter (editor) ' Test of the Tiber *revisited* ' by David Alexander , Al Baker and of course Ted Annemann. Those who are familiar with Teds original Test of the Tiber know his instructions are not extremely clear. As well the important billet switch involved in the original (from Al Baker ) is not properly described in the original. It has been included in the ebook with the proper handling. If you know the original effect you know what the routine is all about. There are some great adjustments , tips and information in David's ebook that are worth a read if you have ever wanted to perform this Annemann classic. Thomas has included another version of sorts that includes some inspiration from David Hoy that I found quite interesting. Just thought I would recommend it. Read it and was very pleased with it.
