I think this move is one the greatest switches ever! This move can replace the Braue Add-on, ATFUS, and all the variations of those popular-old-school moves.
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with old-school switches, but I'm the type of magician that likes to vary the moves to take the heat off some of the more common moves (e.g. I try to vary the DLs that I use during performances, same goes for switches, palms, etc...), but that's just my way of thinking -- I worry too much. This move, however, I don't think you can over use it. (Those of you that are not familiar with the move, please read Carneycopia by Stephen Minch [original source]. Great book.) I don't see many magicians using this move for some reason. I think it's underrated. I even think that most magicians don't even realize how useful it is. What are you guys' thoughts on this move? Do you guys use it a lot? which trick do you prefer to use it on?
Regards,

Andrew Wimhurst has a subtle -- but excellent -- switch-up of the choreography that I recommend checking out. I believe it can be found on the Card Artistry DVD.

I've read Andrew's book -- Down and Under Deals. Great book by the way --, and he describes the move when explaining his handling of the "Awesome Foursome" (awesome trick!). Very detailed, but I still prefer the original source: Carneycopia.

Checked. Turns out the exact handling I was thinking of belongs to Tony Cabral, but his is based on WImhurst’s. I like that both bring it off the table, and I *really* like that Cabral breaks up the choreography in a disarming and smart way.

This and Kenners 4-for-4 are the only way I'll switch cards. Braue Addition and AFTUS and such are too contrived IMO

(Those of you that are not familiar with the move, please read Carneycopia by Stephen Minch [original source]. Great book.) The original source seems to be Genii Magazine in 1982 I learned many many years ago the Mendoza switch, similar idea.

I use this all the time, whenever there's some table space. Michael Vincent has a very nice addition to the move, which makes it even more convincing. It can be found in one of his DVD sets (forgot which one).

The MV addition is actually the Wimhurst addition, MV credits it to AW.

Right? I usually try to replace those moves with the Versa Switch. I'll only use'em when I'm standing. That might explain why I don't get the Versa Switch. I'm always standing when I perform. |
