Ah, I forgot about this one, that goes with "you don't have management skills" or "you are not a working performer".
It's a sad world to live the place where to form an opinion on something that's obvious requires ownership...

Can you please tell us - when your spectator names a number before 20 (14 for example), what do you do? Simple: you either become a pro (problem solved) or you throw spectator management skills incantations at them. There, solved!

I guess this is what happens when you are expecting a miracle.
I had a great idea of what it is before I got it which is why I still like it. MP |

It's interesting how much negativity has been shown to this effect. Of course it's primarily just a handful of people posting over and over. Until now I have stayed out of this debate but thought I'd toss in my .02 cents.
I think this effect involves a novel use of the main principle involved. I'm sure it's in some old book somewhere but I was never previously aware of it so for that reason alone I found this to be worth the purchase. I'm already thinking of other ways this principle could be applied. It may help solve a challenge I've been having with another trick I've been trying to work out. The audience management that is required is fairly standard and typical of many effects so I'm unsure why this one is being given so much grief for it. I still prefer Andy Nyman's Insane, which I sometimes modify to have a blank deck finale if the mood so strikes. The Impossible Opener is another similar effect which is very good. The basic effect is a proven crowd pleaser and this is yet another method to accomplish that. Is it necessary? I guess not, but it's always nice to have options, and often times a method can be used in other ways so it all helps to advance the art. So all in all, a pretty decent trick in general, and I commend Adrian Vega for coming up with it. I don't feel this has surpassed what is already out there regarding similar effects but I'm sure others would disagree. Not the greatest trick by any stretch but even further from being the worst IMO. |

Negativity stems from two things:
1. a bit of wrong advertising, combined with a demo that shows the best possible outcome (out of 3 or 4, debatable) 2. being not that innovative as a trick with the same method was already released. The only change here is the use of blank cards and a few extra convincers These two points are blatantly ignored by people posting positive reviews with the tone "there are worst tricks out there"

Hondo was credited in a video they tacked on to the original. Was it the ethical thing to do? I dunno, at least it was better than nothing I suppose.
AFA the "best case scenario", I've kind of given up on that. It used to totally annoy me, especially when it was Peter Nardi and Dave Loosley (like yeah, they didn't plan that out, it was just pure coincidence.) But I've managed to let that go, and just expect it to be best case whenever that seems to apply. In reality, the truth is that myself and most everyone, if we were actually marketing a trick would most likely use the best case on the video (if we were being honest.). Same as if we shot 4 demos and 3 of the 4 looked apathetic about the whole thing, and one group went nuts. We're all going to use the one where they went nuts. And if you chose not to the first time you marketed an effect, you certainly would have learned your lesson by the next one you released. When I got into magic in the '70's if you didn't have an actual magic shop nearby you were dependent on catalog descriptions. And man oh man, you wanna talk about best case scenarios, and describing what the "spectator sees", those catalog writers took it as far as they could in most cases. They became true experts at deception. Younger folks don't have that point of reference to compare it to so they mistakenly believe this is some new trend. |

YES, those catalog descriptions and early internet one's too!
How many magicians does it take to change a lightbulb? Regardless, for magicians darkness is a time for d'lite.

Too many variables, too many things can go wrong with a trick that works 100% of the times, why make things worse to start with? Quote:

But I don't like justifying bad things/behaviors with the excuse that there is much worse out there. Somebody asked if the trick plays the same way as in the demo and somebody else reply Yes without mentioning anything else. The first somebody then purchased the trick. How bad is that? Interesting discussion BTW.
