Hi,
A friend of mine recently made me a rolon-style table (and did a very nice job I might add). He sold it to me cheap and unpainted. I've painted it a nice navy blue but want some snazzy lettering on the front saying: "The Magic George Show" Maybe also include my phone number and site address in smaller letters at base. I have several ideas how I may go about this
Any thoughts guys? My other question is should I letter the whole front (i.e. unfolded) or just the bottom half so it looks good as a box aswell as a table? Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give. George |

If you want to convey a professional image, go to a sign shop and get them to cut the letters from sign vinyl. If you have a program such as Corel Draw! or Adobe Illustrator, you can probably design the lettering yourself, give them the graphics file, and let them cut it, saving a design charge.
PM me, and I might be able to help. Amos McCormick

My signs are created by a professional sign shop, vinyl lettering put onto sintra plastic. I attach them to my Lefler Su-Table by velcro. I change the table front, depending on the show and venue. Each one is about 20"x21".
I don't put a website or phone number on the sign. Just a name and logo. I tend to feel that the phone number on the sign is just a little too much. On giveaways OK, but on my table sign, no. Just one man's opinion, George. - Donald.

I went to an art shop that produced advertising material and job ordered a 2 ft. by 3 ft. (the size of my roll-on table) photographic tarpaulin. I supplied the photograph and text, they did the scanning and layout.
The output is very professional looking. Before the show, I hang the sign in front of my roll-on table (using velcro), and the audience sees my photo and name. Like Donald, I don't put my telephone number on the sign. Ben Benjay Manila, Philippines |

I agree with the vinyl lettering from a signwriter. The enitre face of my table is removable so I can use it for different types of shows. (eg. kids vs others)

I also agree with the Professional Sign Company. The have the layout area and know how to make it all line up and look professional. It shouldn't cost that much either. I had a local sign company quote me to use my logo and vinyl six of the windows on my van for $90 so it isn't an overly large investment.

Hi guys, thanks for your advice. I will probably go with the professional sign company. I will probably design the lettering myself on the PC though. Although I will look a little further into printing on vinyl straight from the PC just out of interest maybe try it on one letter myself and then view the sign companies samples. I remember I once got some t-shirts printed up and to test the design before I gave it to the printers,I used the iron on printing paper on a couple of shirts to see how it looked. They actually outlasted the professional t-shirts! so to me taking it to the pros isn't a matter of money but will it actually be the route to the most professional outcome?
That's a good point Nicholas about changing the name of the show etc I'll give it some thought. I'm suprised nobody mentioned the graffiti artist idea, is it that bad? If I had them do a test piece first to make sure it looked professional and neat enough I thought I might be able to come away with something really unique. As far as the website and phone number go I agree I may end up making things look cluttered or tacky. (hence the maybe) The main reason I was considering it is that when I get my picture in the local papers or press I often don't get to give all my details so I thought it would be good advertising to have my name and website in the photo. Maybe just go with a small web-address printed along the bottom? Or do you reckon it's still too much? |

Do Not put the phone or web site on the table. Have the sign shop make you a banner to hand near the stage with the info on it. This is the one time I agree that you should not have your contact info on something. Many corporations would not let you use that table to represent them at a trade show for instance if you have your phone number on it and not theirs. Some booking agents will also get crazy about it as well save yourself the heartburn and just get your name and logo, if you feel you have to add something put the city and state your from. You can be found from just that. Then have lots of PR material ready to hand out out press and fans alike with all the good stuff. Also if you have your phone number on your table people will call, at two in the morning when they are drunk (it happened to me).

HI,
I'm fortunate enough to have a CAM 1 Vinyl cutter for my computer, so I've used it to cut out both lettering and dasic graphics for my Children's show roll on tables. If you can find a friend who has one, then they may be able to help. There's a picture of how one of them looks on the Childrens Shows section of my website.

I put a few pieces of self-adhesive Velcro on my table, then I have lightweight signs made at a professional company. I attach Velcro to the signs and can use whatever is appropriate for each venue. The signs are cheap -- I'l bet I don't pay more than $25 each -- and I can use the different signs at my magic and hypnosis shows (I go by a different name for the hyp shows.)
