I too will stick to ToiBox at 1/3 the price and every bit as magical. Plus, as others have stated, there are multiple endings taught and the only limitation is your own mind (as far as how you end ie. signed card, box refilled with mints...) Toibox is examinable (I do not know if Mint Box is as someone else asked).
I am glad to see Daniel Garcia "getting back into releasing" (as the promo text states, however, I really didn't notice he was gone).

I chimed in earlier that Danny had showed me this a little over a year ago at an event. I've been eagerly awaiting it, and am really excited that it's available and can't wait to have it in my hands.
I haven't seen the instructional video that is included, so I can't comment on that. I do know that Danny is a great teacher, so I'm sure he provides thorough instructions and variations on different ways you can use Mint Box. I have seen the gimmick, and it is very clever, deceptive, and easy to use. You can either have the card freely selected and signed, and reveal the signed card in the box as your whole routine, or you can do what is shown in the demo and start with an unsigned card, then have it signed for a double-whammy appearance in the box. I own the original Kennedy Mystery Box (as in the first one John put out, not that it's the first box in the genre), Clarity Box, Paragon 3D, and Toibox, so I'm no stranger to the plot. It's strong no matter which version/method you're using. I personally prefer an opaque box, as using a clear box is a different effect (it's a paradox, unlike using an opaque box). And it's hard to get more common/natural/organic than a mint tin. I didn't know what the price of Mint Box would be before today, but I'm very happy paying $60 for it. I looked it up, and most gimmicked card to box effects retail for $70-80, so $60 is fine with me. Pretty sure I paid $60 for my Mystery Box back in 2001. I don't think there needs to be an argument between Toibox and Mint Box - get both and use each of their advantages together. I don't think using gimmicks or using sleights needs to be an all-or-nothing proposition.

But the clever thing about Danny’s handeling is you’ll get a perfect Mercury every time without any gimmicks So that will make the effect significantly easier.

I would like this or in the clear by Nicholas Lawrence to carry around with me. Any opinions would be welcome. Thanks

My order is in. Looks fantastic. I’m hoping I can adapt the card to look like a folded billet but even if not, I love it. If I use this in one paying show, it will more than pay for itself. $60 for a well made prop ian nothing.

You know it, Eli! The folded billet idea is my thought as well.

My only issue in this case is "Seriously, WHY do we need another card to box"? I really agree too, with Mercury52 that it could have a place in the collections of folks who love the plot so much, It is worthy of adding to a collection. I too started with John Kennedy's absolutely wonderful 1st wooden box with a very "attractive" method. It served me for years of tablehopping and was worth every penny of the $70 or $75 I remember spending on it. Several of the "new spin on an old idea" came along with clear boxes, black plastic and clear, locked, unlocked...." came and went without grabbing my attention enough to replace the Kennedy Box. In fact my ONLY drawback with it was that it "looked like a prop to me eventually". Later, ToiBox came along and I never looked back. Enough about the "other stuff out there" Let's look at this new release. I feel the fact that it is "Gaffed" puts it in the category of "just another gaffed card to box / impossible location". As Mercury52 also points out, it is certainly in that right price range compared to the price of most all of the other Gaffed boxes. He definitely has something here and I am sure it will sell. Daniel has created many great things thru the years. I just believe this was a solution to a problem we didn't have. I also don't think many of these posts are as much "ToiBox vs Mint Box" as they are "why do we need this when there are so many effects that are basically the same in the spectators eyes and minds". I hope that explains where I am coming from. I have NOTHING against Daniel or his many projects and effects.

As some of you may have noticed...I have been complaining about magic video demos not showing a performance of the effect straight through.
While camera angles were interesting..... I still would like to thank Daniel for including a real performance straight through Great job ! and thank you !

The only thing makes this different from other card to impossible place tricks is the way he make disappear the signed card from his hand....

Went ahead and got this and watched the video...now, I don't own any other CTB devices so nothing to compare to but from what I see...It's pretty devious indeed.
To answer my own question, the box cannot really be examined but I don't think it matters. From the demo, you can see that the box is already on the specs hand the whole time. They see it with a card inside. Then they see it empty. It's on their hand throughout...so not really much left to examine as technically..they kind of already did. All the necessary moves are taught. And many alternative handlings for the reveal...Some of which, in my opinion, are better than the main version taught. Only potential downside I can see is that the box does seem to have a sensitivity to it. Meaning, if you handle it a certain way (or are perhaps too rough) in the activation, it could ruin. The video gives you all the do's and don'ts so it shouldn't be an issue. To be fair, without having the box in hand yet, it's tough to say exactly how sensitive it is...as it could just be a warning for a worse case scenario. Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting the actual item and putting it to practice. |

One of my friends got this and I had the opportunity to watch the video. My initial thoughts after watching the video:-
Its a gimmicked Altoids Box. The design of the gimmick is very clever, deceptive and practical. It's very easy to activate and deactivate the gimmick. Once the gimmick has been deactivated the box looks empty and very normal. However the box cannot be given out for examination. The overall teaching is very good. Besides using the box for its intended purpose, Daniel shows how the box can also be used as a magic prop/trick. It can transform a folded card into Mints flying out of the box. This looks very visual and magical. However Daniel doesn't advocates using the prop for such purpose; he has good reason for not doing so. . . . and Quote:

My concern being, in the event of inadvertently damaging the gimmick (which is quite likely during the heat of performance), there is no mention how to repair/replace the gimmick. Looks like you will have to purchase another box by paying $60. This aspect should have been taken care of by the creator/producer. This is just my initial thought till I physically see the box and its gimmick. It will be nice if the creator/producer can please address this issue. Thank you. More when the prop is received.
