Is it just me or do you even need a gimmicked box to make this work? As you can see from the reactions nobody cares about the box or seeing it empty. Toibox obtains the same effect with no gimmicks and for a lot lower price tag

It looks like toibox is still the way to go.

While perorming at a restaurant last night an 8 year old boy showed me a trick from a magic set his parents bought him.
It was a small plastic box with a card inside. The card showed Houdini looking up at an elephant. The boy closed the box, handed it to me and when I opened it, the elephant was gone. Houdini was left standing there. Just sayin. My experience working many years in restaurants, encountering a multitude of personality types, it doesn't make a difference regarding aparatus. Heck, my card to wallet has served me well. Yes, I use a mint tin or Kennedy box from time to time. If executed well your audiences are amazed regardless. Half the time they don't remember the mechanics of the effect. I don't see what all the hype is over another tin box for $60. Buy an Altoids tin for a couple bucks and practice your sleights. For now I'm sticking with my Mullica.
Guilt will betray you before technique betrays you!

Some magi just LOVE gadgets!
How many magicians does it take to change a lightbulb? Regardless, for magicians darkness is a time for d'lite.

The add copy over at Penguin says " but where it takes things to A WHOLE OTHER LEVEL is that you can even use it to visually vanish or transform objects. "
I would like to know if perhaps you could have a signed bill appear in the tin rather than a card. |

^ It was not taught on the video. I imagine you would have to try to customize the gimmick on your own...and risk potentially ruining it.

I received mine. I believe the design to be more delicate than I would like in a 60 dollar prop.

I bought this partially out of respect for Daniel Garcia and the INSANE release trailer that showed off the effect.
Upon receiving this I am really impressed by the quality of this thing. In its natural state it looks just like what a mint box should look like. Also I am not worried about this thing wearing down due to pocket wear, only during actual use. I do wonder what the product life of this thing is, the gadget feature (if you will) may only be able to be activated a certain number of times, but it is definitely possible that design decisions were made to really make this thing last a long time under normal use (I'd have to do a force-fail to calculate that sort of approximation; also there is the question how this thing behaves if the temperature is really hot or really cold). The concept is ingeniously simple, and the quality is stellar. If I were to try and replicate this it would not look as picture perfect. There is high likelihood that the spectator could damage it by dropping it, but I do believe the magician has enough performance leeway to not damage it himself during the performance if the magician practices the one move a set number of times. At the end of the day I have paid $60 knowing I do not have to master any difficult sleight of hand until this thing breaks, and as long as I carry this around in my coin jeans pocket then this effect can be performed in basically any situation. I am glad to be able to add this to my [gimmicked - high impact - no table required - easy to do list] of routines. This is the first time I have bought in on any type of card to non-card-box effect. I have this, and I have Toibox. I also have a gimmicked Altoid box that I created, that I use in conjunction with Toibox. I am going to put my gimmicked box and several routines in the next Bullseye Magic Volume. I think you can do pretty much everything that Mint box does with Toibox. I love Daniel Garcia, I think he is one of the most Charismatic performers out there, but I think if you put just a bit of work into it, Toibox is the way to go. My gimmicked box works great in conjunction with Toibox, particularly because Toibox is examinable and my gimmicked Altoids box does a completely different set of routines that are not possible with Toibox.

There is no good reason to buy a prop like this. There are plenty of other card to impossible location boxes out there. There are plenty of great non-gimmicked methods too - check out Tommy Wonder's work on the subject.
Sometimes however, we just want a new toy to play with. And what better toy than a prop that can create the perfect illusion of a card or billet being cleanly removed from small box without a shuttle pass? So, I bought this, mostly, to be honest, out of curiosity. And the curious urge to flush good money down the toilet. The method is very clever. The precision prop is well built. Daniel Garcia has lots of handling ideas in his video. But the device seems a bit delicate for my taste, and being so expensive, I'm apprehensive to take it the trenches. One false move and you could destroy it. Will I make that false move? Two days of playing with it, I have not yet done so yet. Maybe I never will... I'm sure there is one part of the construction that will wear out over time. I wont' name it for exposure reasons, but It's going to wear out. I'm trying to re-engineer the gimmick so I can build my own strictly for personal use. I want to be able to play with this and all it's possibilities without fear of breaking something I cannot afford to replace. The tin boxes are cheap and available. However, they are tricky to make. My first prototype did not work well, but I'm optimistic I might be able to make a back up and/or repair my original unit when it breaks. I'm also excited about using the idea of customizing the gimmick for other small things like billets, bills, etc. I'm a little disappointed there wasn't anything in the video about repair or replacement cost. That's my 2 cents worth - or should I say that's my $60.00's worth?
Mediocrity is greatly under rated!

I’m still waiting for mike to arrive but I was hoping to use it for billets and that doesn’t seem to be a possibility unless I try to make my own. So that seems like a bummer. It looks like it does one thing very well.
