1KJ Inner circle Warning: We will run out of new tricks in 4385 Posts |
Gary,
Hi. OK, I signed up for the large book. I'm not looking to reveal the recipe name. It seems to me that would be missing the opportunity of this. For me, the real opportunity here is to create a routine that involves imaginary smells and taste. I am still hoping I can do a routine that reveals a "dish" that someone prepared in their imagination through the revelation of what I'm smelling and tasting. KJ |

Gary, I certainly do not wish to appear to be argumentative, and I do agree with all of your points in regards to a more formal presentation of this effect where the performer has much more control of the situation. However, several people have mentioned keeping this in their kitchen and using it on a more impromptu basis. Which was what I wanted to do. But I think after doing your reveals a natural question for anyone to ask is "OK, so what's the recipe?"
So have I misunderstood or can you really not tell them this if they were to ask? It would seem that in order to perform it the way that 1KJ wishes to, you would need to know the name of the dish even if you reveal it in a more indirect way without stating the name outright. My apologies if I am just being really slow to grasp this. I am sick in bed with a bad case of the flu so maybe not thinking too clearly. |

You can not tell them the recipe name. It was never designed for that and I stand by the decision. It’s just too much.
In all the times that I have performed this, it has never come up. The way the routine flows, it doesn’t happen. When you read the instructions you will understand. Hope the flu shifts soon! Gary |

The three reveals build up really well and, forgive the pun, any more would be, in my opinion, 'too much icing on the cake.'
Should you decide you would like to reveal more, you could always make a c***. I perform for a lot of Women's groups and this book test is ideal. Neil |

I'm not questioning that at all. I just want to know if you think there is a remote chance that I could use this book test for the routine I described. I think I should interpret your comments to mean the answer to my question is "NO". Is that correct? KJ |

Whilst you can’t reveal the actual recipe with a small amount of memory work you can tell the type of meal eg, vegetarian, pizza etc however you can’t reveal the specific dish. I am inclined to agree with Gary although it depends on whether you want to present this as believable mentalism or whether you want to do it as a magic trick. The drawing dupe part is stronger and more entertaining than saying oh this is a Hawaiian Pizza yes?

Well said Mark.
This book test really does allow for believable mentalism. Neil |

As you can know the type of meal, it wouldn't be difficult to describe smells and tastes with a basic knowledge of cookery. This routine builds up nicely,is believable and the final reveal is different.

Neil S. was right again...this book test is OUTSTANDING! I received both books (A4 and A5) on Monday and learned the basic handling within just 15-minutes with the gorgeous instruction booklet. As many others have noted, this really DOES feel like true mindreading. Moreover, Michael Murray's additions really make this book test sizzle. I honestly cannot wait to perform this.
I perform mostly parlor shows and so I've decided to sell the larger (A4) version (see the for sale section for details) since the smaller A5 one better suits my needs. If anyone is interested, please send me a PM. |

Just got this this morning. This is absolutely GREAT!!! As a student of Harry Lorayne, easy enough to connect the page with the dish. As has been said earlier, its just necessary. This booktest is going to Kill, plus or minus nothing.
Best Steve

I've seen reference to there being a powerful climax but no description of what that climax actually is.
Can someone please enlighten me? Or if that's too much to ask, just describe the climax. |

I received this and have been reading the explanation. I just don't see how I could do the routine that I envisioned with this. It's too bad. While I can see where some people don't think they would want to reveal the dish, I think it could make for a great performance. I just don't see how it would work with this product. Someone said I could make a crib. It would have to be a crib of the 90 recipes as far as I can see. If anyone comes up with some sort of way to make a shorter crib than 90 items, please let me know.
Thx, KJ |

For another effect, I have made a crib of approaching 200 items. It can easily be done eg with Banachek's folio being just one of several options.

However you then take the elements of what you drew and ‘reposition’ then to show that you have now drawn the right thing. Hope that helps. Gary |
