Hi All,
These message boards have been a daily fixture in my life for the past 10 years and yet I always felt that I should listen (or rather read) more than speak. However, the time has come to actively engage and so with all that said, nice to meet you all, I'm Jack. I have studied magic for the vast majority of my life (since I was around 5/6) and I have performed semi-professionally since I was 15. I worked regular gigs at restaurants, hotels and bars while a student at university but I have come a little unstuck in the past three years as my corporate career has taken off. I still learn as much as possible but I have not created performing opportunities for myself (outside of work). I would love to perform more but without knowing many other magicians, it has become difficult without starting a side business. I feel I have a strong grounding in many areas of magic theory and I have educated myself with many of the classics (Erdnase, Corinda, Vernon, Hugard, Annemann, etc.). My more specific magical interests (to anyone interested) are as follows: Propless Mentalism (inspired by the works of Atlas Brookings, Peter Turner, Joshua Quinn etc.) Stage Mentalism (cliche as it is, Derren Brown/Andy Nyman's stage shows are an inspiration, Paul Stockman, John Archer, Banachek etc.) Close-Up Card Magic (inspired by Doc Eason, David Blaine, Jeff McBride, Michael Ammar, Harry Lorayne, Jay Sankey etc.) Organic Magic (inspired by Marc Paul, Gregory Wilson etc.) Stage Magic (inspired by Jeff McBride, Penn & Teller, Sigmund & Roy, Joshua Jay, Paul Osborne, Andrew Mayne etc.) I really look forward to speaking, debating, discussing and generally chatting to many of you in the future. Thanks, Jack |

Atlas, you are an absolute inspiration to me and the fact that you were the first to reply to my first ever post really means the world to me! Mary, thank you very much, I am always trying to expand the horizons of my education! I look forward to chatting with you in the future. All the best, Jack |

Welcome aboard!
When you hit 50 legitimate posts you will have access to the "Let's Make a Deal" area where you will find a lot of quality magic at great prices, and "The Banquet Room," where more frank and detailed discussions regarding method are had.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Hi Jack! (OOPS, don't say that in an airport!)
Welcome to our motley crew. Permit me to "correct" you! THERE AINT NO SUCH THING AS A "SEMI" PROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are a PART TIME PRO. (I'm 86. and became a part time pro. at age 13 (and eleven months) on October 24, 1945.) --That lasted about 20 years. Then I became a full time pro. until I retired in 2008.

Hi Dick and mroek,
Thanks very much! Having a great time with the little posting I've been doing already. I appreciate the 'part-time pro' way of thinking, I'm going to use that going forward! All the best! Jack |

Welcome aboard. I trace my part time professional status to a time when the manager at subway gave me a free cookie because he liked my magic.
