Dear Friends,
I may be absent a couple weeks on the Café' because Death has chosen to knock on our door. At 3:35 AM our son, Michael, was pronounced dead. His wife had been at a business meeting and came home to find him laying on the floor. The massive hemorrhage from the aneurysm was unsurvivable. We were the last to see him alive and ate with him the day previous and we are thankful for that. He was concerned about my recent heart issue that put me in the hospital a week ago (twice) and I said, "Michael, the truth is we are all somewhere on God's calendar; we just don't know where." Never did I expect his date was earlier than mine. When children precede their parents it seems so unnatural. Libby gave him a final kiss before we came home to get some rest at about 2:30 AM, thinking we would return this morning to be with family again about 5. We have a clock that shows the time on the ceiling and about 3:30 Libby asked if I saw the shadows and I said no. She said there were a lot of shadows hanging over her and she didn't know who they were and that she felt someone hugging her." Five minutes later, we got the call. She was not asleep and had not had any medication and thinks it may have been the spirit of her son giving her one last hug in her time of grief, just as she had given him one last kiss. Was it? I don't know, but it was a pretty strong coincidence if it wasn't. I'm not sure how, but the sun came up this morning and people began living their lives as if nothing had happened. This is a difficult time, but we will be okay with a little time. Thanks Spookies for allowing me to share this story with you. There is so much more I could share but will refrain from doing so at this time. Harold Harbin, aka Weepin' Willie

My dear brother - sharing the same profession, we have a hope that transcends even death - it is the hope - the confidence we celebrate this Sunday. That does not lessen the pain of loss nor the grief which is the companion of death. The Bible tells us believers to comfort one another with the same comfort that we have received from the Lord. So, in this most terrible time of grief and pain at the death of your beloved son, please accept my heartfelt condolence and know that you have the arms of prayer from many wrapped around you. I know my beliefs and your beliefs are not shared by many, but it is the faith that sustains us. Today is your Friday, but Sunday's coming. And in that day is the joyous truth for all of us Christians who confront death: He is risen! He is risen indeed.

Dear Willy, or please let me call you Harold this once,
This certainly is a terrible and dramatic event... It is very sad. Losing your child must be the most difficult thing to experience... I wish you and your family a lot of strength. Although I'm not religious, I will burn a candle for you tonight. A big hug, Luc. |

Weepinwil, you have brought us so many laughs over the years - albeit disturbing ones - that I half expected your post to be another invitation for some dark merriment. But tragically, there was no laughter here. And it's off-putting to know that someone who can be so painfully delightful, now faces his own kind of pain.
We feel your loss. We all may not be able to empathize through common experience, but we all can certainly sympathize. It took bravery to share your story, and we appreciate that. Heal. Heal slowly. Heal dearly. Heal knowing that your wife and you put Michael on this earth and he made it a better place. Those are healing words.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
