So the first episode of AGT was on this week. Shin Lim was on. He performed flawlessly some pretty cool card effects. Simon started saying he did not like card tricks but was won over. Shin is advancing. No surprise there. The other act worth mentioning was a young girl who looked like she was from a horror show. She never spoke a word but proceeded to have a picture card selected only to reveal the same person was on the previous shown newspaper. It fooled them. I noticed she had a "haunted box" on the table and I wondered why she did not use it until I thought her routine through and then it made sense. She also advanced.
There were a couple other dud magicians that made it nowhere. Ron |

That would be the Sacred Rianna.

I never heard of her but thought I should look her up. Apparently, she won "Asia's Got Talent" last year. I guess these shows aren't quite as nationalistic as one might think. I've never actually seen a full episode of any of them, so I don't know how the game works.
I saw two of her performances. They were similar in that the kicker involves a photo. She's very interesting and has really committed to her character. I'm not sure where she can take this, though. The routines work well on their own, but it doesn't seem like she could do a full show like that. The audience will likely tire of it after 15 minutes or so. But if Vaudeville ever comes back, she'll be a big hit! |

Where have you guys been hiding out. She was a huge hit all across the magic community with her TV spots in Asia. Interested to see how the US takes to her. Not sure what market she has outside of commicons and horrorcons. Very wonderful theater, though!

I am pretty sure she talked, at least through some kind of voice enhancer. She was definitely not a completely "silent" act.

She actually WON Asia's Got Talent last year. How in the world does anyone think these shows are on the up and up? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_etsAX53Ys

Loved watching Shin Lim's performance. It was the best magic audition on AGT in my opinion. Still no idea how he does any of it lol.

Shim has been great and can go far. Rianna, maybe magicians liked her but not for the general public. Once it got to the public's voting this was well demonstrated. If magicians could take a step back and look from the outside in you may see there wasn't much appeal to the mass American public with such a specialized character and style of magic.

Rianna was just featured on a recent episode of Masters of Illusion on the CW network. I hadn't seen her before and if I don't see her again that'll be OK. The act would have been better if her character was a little less gruff and rude. You can be dark and mysterious without having to be so off-putting. The audience clearly didn't know what to make of her. Perhaps bizarre magic just doesn't work in a mainstream magic show on a large stage, or it may just be her specific vibe.
