So I have realised that I know a lot of click passes that retain one coin but not so many that retain both. Other than the one at a time click pass from Bobo I've yet to come across a really convincing method for retaining both coins. Any suggestions?

Here is something I have used most of my life. I hope this description works in this thread. I did a routine in which a silver dollar is split into two halves. Then the halves are tossed into the other hand in which they again become a silver dollar. Here goes a rough explanation of the move. The two halves are held for display in a finger palm position. The top coin is jogged a quarter of an inch toward the finger tips. As a false transfer is executed it begins by curling the fingers. This aligns the coins but makes a space between the coins. At the point where the coins are to hit the receiving hand, a thumb presses the coins together making a click at the time two imaginary coins hit the receiving hand. If you are familiar with the Schneider Basic vanish, this should be clear.
As a side note, Jeff's coins would look very nice here if he had a dollar sized coin and half dollar sized coins. However, thinking about this, I wonder what the click would sound like as his coins appear to be a metal core encases in a resin shell. Not sure. Just a thought. Al

1) The Himber vanish can also be used as a click pass retaining one or both coins.
2) Rune Klan has a version of the one that Al Schneider just mentioned in his Three Pieces of Silver DVD. 3) In David Roth's lecture, he uses a two coin click pass which I believe Al Goshman also used. |

You will find not one, but THREE methods in my ungimmicked Copper Silver Brass routine, done on my Penguin Live lecture one, my At the Table lecture, and on the NYCMS dvd series volume 15.

Do a retention vanish retaining the first one in finger palm. then do a second retention vanish and as it goes into finger palm, it clicks against the one already retained.
Check out Eric Chien's retention vanish. you can easily do the aforementioned with his technique. it will fool laypeople everytime. also, try and watch some old Mickey Silver Videos on youtube. he doesn't teach how to do it, but you can get a sense of the timing and rhythm needed. |

Display two coins in your hand. One coin is in open finger palm display, the other resting slightly on top. Your first finger and thumb picks up the top coin and drops it on the coin in finger palm display for the click. Now combine with the motion of dumping or tossing the coins to the other hand. Can be used for a single coin click pass, retaining all coins, or a false count.

There is a very old method I have never seen in print and can work with 2-4 coins. (I was shown this in 1958 at a PCAM Convention)
the several coins are on the right finger tips. A coin is slid off by the right thumb and dropped visibly onto the left fingers. Repeat until the last coin is on the right fingers. As you make the repeat drop, the right hand coin is rotated into a clip between the first two fingers with the edge protruding. The left hand coin(s) are levered up into a pinch also. The right hand coin strikes the left coin(s) from the front and the entire stack pinched and carried away. There can be a flash if desired, an only some of the coins stolen back (drop three and steal two back). The key is to establish a pattern of drop and sound, and then make sure the final move is identical.

David, that is Milton Kort's drop vanish used as a click pass. However, the way its done is that the first coin is retained in fp when apparently dropping it into the other hand. It stays hidden in fp. The second coin is dropped onto the first one in the same manner. A useful move.

Thanks, Dr. Rubinstein. It always tickles me when I get to interact here with one of my magic heroes.
I first learned that click pass from one of Kainoa Harbottle’s video lectures. I just went back to his Coins 101 (available on Reel Magic) and he credits Kort there. The false count variation is to toss one coin to the other hand and catch it in finger palm, toss the second coin into the other hand and let it hit the first, then toss a “third” coin to the other hand while timing the clink to simulate another coin. Both the click passes ( retaining one or both coins) look very similar to each other and are fairly easy to do. I like them much better than the one from classic palm taught in Bobo’s, which looks a little unnatural to me. Dave |

If I have time I will try to film the three I mentioned before in case you don't have access to the references I gave (although you should )

Two of the three double coin click passes I mentioned previously are used in this routine. The first is the turnover double click pass, the second is the ROPS double click pass.
