You asked for it. Your handling is very good. You do the sleights well. And, they are very deceptive. This can be better, I think. First, your hands are moving way out of a performance area. The performance area should be tighter. You are making your audience search the space around you to find where the magic is happening. Could you tighten up the motion so the audience can focus in one spot without having to glance all over the place. If the audience can just watch one spot to get the show they are vastly more comfortable. Second, the smile and look on your face is saying, "Boy aren't I cool." Can you change that look to one that says, "Isn't this cool?" or something like that. Third, look at them when doing the magic moves but never look at the audience when the magic is revealed. You are good and when the audience realizes that magic is happening they will be stunned. When you look at them at that point it kills their feeling of wonder. Fourth, I am not sure about this. Would need to watch it several times. I think you need to change the pace in several spots to enable the audience to soak in what happened. You know what happened. The audience does not. The performer must wait a long time, it seems, for the audience to realize the magic has happened. This means moving quickly sometimes and other times pausing or even stopping to the let the audience catch up. When performing live, one can read the audience. On a clip, the performer must rely on experience to gauge how long to wait for the audience to process an event. I hope I haven't turned you off. Many will believe this has nothing to do with magic. A performer's job is to take care of the audience and make sure they feel comfortable with the act. If they are not comfortable they will not see your magic no matter how good. Al

Al, the notes are truly appreciated, I've never really watched my self perform, (the camera is a way better tutor than a mirror) and a lot of your observations are similar to my initial reaction, the routine is way too fast overall, and the timing needs reconsideration...obviously the performance differs with the table seated audience.. lots to work on..
Again really appreciate your feedback.. P.s if this where I mention that I totally mystified my kids, (tough audience the offspring), with my new magic piece based on a certain magician's matrix ! 😀 |

G'day Mr Rabbit
One thing that I found that makes a one coin routine far more effective......is to try and have the coin vertical as much as possible. When the coin makes an appearance in your open hand or displayed as such (horizontal)....the audience doesn't see it to the full extant. Just something that I always concentrate on. Do this and I think you'll be well on the way to a cracker-jack routine. Zaub |

Then, continue this thread and tell me/us what happened. You see, I built Matrix to shock people. If you were really a wizard, your hands would move exactly as portrayed in the classic Matrix. I don't think the first production will fool anyone. They will tell you it was in the other hand the whole time. And the hand washing thing looks like you are moving your hands in odd ways for some reason, but the coin is still there.
Keep smoothing it out |

Hand washing is a convincer, not an effect in and of itself, done casually, paying no attention to your hands.

One other thing I would change is the approach of coming on like you are doing some odd bistro dance. I only mention it to be helpful, not trying to be overly critical.

Hiya Rabbit, you've certainly got the moves. There are lot of pretty good OCRs out there, and you're learning from some good practitioners already. I always like watching others, as sometimes I get new ideas or perhaps find better ways to do what Im trying to do.

You're doing the moves well enough.
What would you like the opening / production to read as a story? If you act the story as mime you can then fill in the real coin and sleights as needed. Magic for non-magicians is not a checklist of skills to demonstrate. They judge on how likeable you are then how much magical fun your routines are.
