Torched and restored by Brent Braun is perfect use for old cards and it's a killer effect too.
Pick a card, any card at all. Just don't pick a RED spade.

I realise that the explanation is in dutch. In the remarks there is a PDF with a template how to cut the cards.

I'm saving them in a box because as I'm a beginner I just know I'll need/want to learn mercury folds at some point and I don't want to be messing up new cards! Plus, as others have said ... anything that requires destroying a card!

If you're reading a few magic books, which most of us are, use them for bookmarks. If you've got yourself a Fedora hat, take one and put it in the band. Write the word Magic across the card.

Ahaa, I do use them as bookmarks! I forgot that one. Every magic book has a card in it..

I recently spilled a drink and unfortunately ruined about 15 cards out of a deck I had nearby. I thought I'd use the remaining cards for practice DIY gaffs in the future. I liked a few of the ideas above as well, namely using the remainders for other tricks or practice doing other tricks like tear & restore.
