The type of material used seems to have a lot of friction to it. Kind of reminds me of rough and smooth cards. You may want to follow the instructions in the video very closely as far as holding the Chapstick, proper finger placement, etc. I know that has worked for some people. In my case I just happened to have a tube of Chapstick in my drawer. It wasn't Chapstick brand but an off brand. The tube on it was just a hair larger diameter than the Smooth tube so I carefully slid the gimmick on the generic Chapstick tube. It was extremely tight. I then left it overnight and when I came back to it I was worried that it would be very difficult to remove the gimmick. But it actually slid right off easily. It must have enlarged it a tiny amount because now it works perfectly and slides freely by gravity alone, which is how it should work IMO. I can't recommend anyone do what I did because I may have just gotten lucky and I could have damaged the prop. But I have to say it worked wonders on mine. Night and day difference. |

Seems that your "experiment" with expanding the gimmick worked nicely. I was thinking of spraying a silicone-type lubricant to the inside of the gimmick but then thought the better of it. I just might try your method since I cannot think of anything else to do. If I do nothing to fix the problem, I'll end up throwing the trick in the drawer and never perform it. Pity because it really is a good effect.
(I'm sorry that I don't know how to include your statement as a quote within my reply.) |

Yes send it back immediately ,
quality control is obviously lacking on this product which I personally don’t rate anyway . A key or pen is a far better plot than a very whimpish chapstick imho 🙂 |

I believe Nicholas is making all of these by hand so naturally there are going to be some that are a little off. It's a hard thing to test because the problem I had was inconsistent and so it may work fine a couple times and then not work so well a few times. So a quick test or two might not show a problem. As far as a key or pen, some people still don't get it. They think Smooth is the same effect as Ignition or Stealth Pen. But Smooth looks REALLY GOOD in person, that's what most people aren't able to see. It's not a video effect, it actually looks much better in person. Look at this way, Ignition and Stealth Pen are like the first phase in Misled. Smooth is like the second phase in Misled. And it's typically the second phase that really freaks people out. |

And I actually think that the one gimmick is supposed to be how it came, a little tight. Reason being, if it's to loose you cannot toss it up without possibly having an accident. Mine was pretty much the same as some here have suggested but I have found it is very sensitive and defendant on your grip and pressure.
I love SMOOTH!!!!

Not trying to be mean but seriously, magic is such a wide open field to use anything and everything to create special moments for people. So magicians that do flower magic are whimpish? Magicians that use sponge hearts are whimpish? The list goes on....

Just opened mine. Not watched anything.
This looks nothing like any chap stick I have ever seen - the main thing just isn't close to right at all compared to those that you can buy in the UK and in Spain. Are they really like this in the States with the cheap paper label etc? Here the body of the stick is actually printed, not covered with a label. |

Also, there are so many different types of chapsticks here in the states that it wouldn't be suspicious in The Spectators eyes even if it didn't look like an original.

I will be interested to hear your result.
I purchased it and am working on getting the moves down pat before I try it on an audience.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

Most welcome drawfull! In the states there are so many variations and kinds of chapstick so the name and looks really won't matter. Everyone in the states (including men) knows what a tube of chapstick looks like.

It's grown on me a lot in the sense I probably won't replace the replaceable (should've starred it earlier), but I need to think about or work a lot on the clean-up. At the moment, that doesn't work for me. Some tips off other users would be lovely as I am not a fan of cleaning when everyone is expecting me to clean. |

Does anyone know if a Facebook group exists for Smooth? Would be great to exchange advice/tips in a secret Facebook group.

Driving home from my gig and I will pleasantly report that people absolutely loved this! Both kids and adults!
Also, after using this in a performance environment I do have to say for those who think they're one part of the gimmick is too tight, be careful with trying to make it more loose. Mine when I first got it was a lot like others have suggested, too tight but now after practicing with it for almost two weeks I can say that it works in itself. And I do think that this can become to loose to where you have to be really careful when performing it.
