Just an informal poll.... when you do a push through shuffle, do you pause before stripping out (with fingers covering the ends obviously) or do you do it all in one motion?

I like to add in a momentary pause, I even release the deck sometimes (still covering the ends), just to separate the two actions.

I used to pause until seeing Richard Turner do his "riffle, riffle, strip, riffle, cut" sequence. He does the push through and immediately strips them apart for another push through without pausing.

I like a very brief pause, even with a RRSRC sequence. Richard of course is above reproach, but for me, I like the brief pause to let the idea of a square sink in before splitting again.

I do a very short pause. For me the pause is only what is necessary to re-grip the stationary 1/2 of the deck.
Here is a 29-minute live performance of mine: https://youtu.be/lq2Rj1uf05M I used to be quite sensitive to criticism; I am much less so now; so, please do criticize my technique, presentation, and posts. It helps me to grow, and I promise to take responsibility and not to be defensive. |

I think it is the Cervon notebooks where he notes the advice not to pause; I think the argument is that if you pause, you then have to overcome inertia to start again.

I personally like Forte's demonstration the best. He didn't pause.

No pause. But I've seen both executed more than convincingly enough to know both ways work.
