Just curious what substance folks use for the voodoo ash / palm effect. What do you find leaves the best mark?

Well, you could stick a bone splinter in their hand, I guess

Pixie dust. What? You didn't know pixies cremate their dead?

Seriously, we need something that is readily available, has no unpleasant smell and WILL NOT IRRITATE people's skin. After many years of experimentation, I have found that the ash from incense sticks works perfectly and is what I use for my Hero effect using my Pocket Printing Press. Cheers.

Thanks Chris! that's a great idea, the ash is very fine, sticks well, leaves a dark mark and is readily available. I would never have thought to use it.

I thought everyone used cigarette ash--or am I thinking of a different effect?

Some use lipstick and change the presentation to a blood spot.

In recent years I have been using women's eye make up or shadow, black or brown is good. This comes in a small clear square receptacle, you can put foam adhesive on the back of the container and stick it anywhere for easy access. The pop off lid can easily be replaced for the next performance.
