Ian Rowlands 2018 Mindvention notes are now available at The Cold Reading Connection.
http://www.thecoldreadingconnection.com/......vention/ Sorry, no time for a review, but wanted to let folks know it was available. This is the first Café topic I've ever started, so hope that speaks to my degree of satisfaction Enjoy (Oh, guess I should add I paid full price, and have no connection with Ian, ever since he got that restraining order )

Is there anything about them that stands above other available cold reading notes or books?

I am currently short on money, but I have two previous sets of Rowland’s lecture notes. As soon as I have a spare 25 pounds, I’m getting getting these. He doesn’t sell junk.

Just for the record, these Lecture Notes have nothing whatsoever to do with cold reading, and I'm puzzled by your assumption. There is a full list of contents on the product page -- a far more detailed and comprehensive list than is generally offered with such items -- because I only want people to buy these Notes if they are going to get something useful out of them.

Hi Ian,
I'm very intrigued by "The Mind Maze". If I buy your lecture notes, I will be able to build it easily or I will have to buy it from you?
What would a real mindreader do?

There is one item, however, which I can best describe as a card with special properties (even though this is not a card trick). This IS hard to make, but I can supply it at cost (£5) + postage OR if you don't want to get it from me I tell you how to obtain from one other source. I am deliberately being vague about the nature of this 'card with special properties' out of respect for those who HAVE purchased the Lecture Notes and therefore bought the information and the idea. I would ask anyone else participating in this thread to do the same.

Hey all,
Ian's 2018 Mindvention lecture notes are excellent, as was his actual Mindvention lecture. My personal standout items are the Figaro Switch Mindreading, which is pure and practical simplicity, and the Mind Maze. Mind Maze is my absolute favourite from these notes and a sequence I have been more excited about than most other things I have read recently. Ian was actually not sure whether people would enjoy the latter enough and thus doubted whether he was going to lecture the Mind Maze. I asked him to present it anyway. He did, and it turned out to be a favourite of many of the attendees of his lecture. Mind Maze is not so much an effect as that it is real mentalism. It is a real and insightful experience for the spectator that has the potential to instantly position your character in a certain way. If tied in properly, it will also almost certainly lend credibility to whatever you choose to present afterwards. I have made up a Mind Maze immediately after reading it in Ian's notes and now carry it with me frequently. It is not often that I so easily and quickly adapt another performer's creation. Wonderful thinking and highly recommended. All the other items contained are practical and well thought out. I imagine people who read between the lines and think on how to apply what is written will particularly get a lot out of the "Range Finder" process and Ian's essays. All the best from Amsterdam, Timon

Most of the stuff on it is related to CR but, in fairness to myself, it does say, "...about cold reading and related fields."

I’m with Timon,
Mind Maze is my favorite. I have already have started to acquire necessary items. I have already performed the same structure as Figaro Switch, but Ian better focused the revelation than I did. I am instantly adopting his nuances. I am not sure he will even know what I mean when I say this. Range Finder I enjoyed as well, because it focuses a revelation into something more about the mind of a participant, rather than something we merely demonstrate Parity Party I enjoyed partially for the curiosity of it. I like his idea of discussing quantum entanglement. This gives an intriguing hook to an intriguing principle. “Patterns in chaos” galore. This is on par with Ian’s consistently excellent work. Plenty to think about and plenty to put into practice. Thank you Ian. |
