I usually carry a deck of cards. Probably the most effective trick I carry for those impromptu moments is the "Hopping Half." You cannot go wrong with that, and it is a trick that works with most angles.

I just carry my cards with me and very rarely a second gimmicked deck. With my cards I am set to perform a few effects to people.

Wow, I love this topic. LOL Smile Anyway, here's my list...

Almost Always:

Bicycle Card Deck x2
Quarter Bite
Cigarette Through Quarter
TT
Invisible Deck
PEN-etration Pen
The clothing necessary for a Balducci or King Rising Levitation, depends on my mood

Occasionally:
The Raven (Mainly for Coin Vanish, but also for other effects)
Spool of thread (You know, Hindu Gypsy Thread, Ring On Thread, etc.)

This list is subject to change, though. I'm gonna be going on a magic shop splurge pretty soon. XD

I'v been going through this entire topic, it's been 46 min. since I started with post nr.1. and it's made me think...
It's kinda interesting to hear what peoples answers are to the "show me a trick" topic, It seems like many members are carrying a large magic-case everywhere they go??

I belive that great magic performed impromptu is one of the most amazing things we can do. Just think if a friend or co-worker asks you to do a trick and
your natural reply could always be with a question like:
"Ok, let me see: do you have some coins in your pockets?"
"Hmm, let's use this glass, could you please go and get that napkin on the counter over there?"
"Let me borrow your pen, could I also borrow your note book and a dollar bill?"
"Ok, but then you will have to do as I do, Ok?"

Beeing able to entertain with borrwed objects when your friend belives you to be caught of guard has to be something we all should be working on..

...As long as i`m not a world-champion at anything, the great reactions of doin` magic will do just fine.....

I just carry a Silver dollar and a deck of cards all the time.
Darwin Ortiz once told me that should be all you need to entertain someone should they ask on the spur of the moment.
If you ever have the chance to get lessons with Darwin or Alan Ackerman be prepared for at least a few hours of entertainment with just cards alone.
I attended a lecture with Jon Racherbauer once and was amazed that the man could do 6 hours of magic with just a deck of cards and never repeat a trick.
All of this taught me that just a deck of cards should be sufficient in most cases. I have been performing magic as a semi-professional for the last 15yrs and been in magic for 31 years. You never stop learning.
Later,
Mobius
