I am making something that has the same kind of feeling as a shadow box.. I was just wondering what kind of white fabric can I use so that you can only see thru it when a light is shone thru the back, but you cannot see thru it when it is just sitting there with the stage and spot lights aimed on it??
Thanks Dave |

Dave,
You may be surprised as to how many fabrics WILL work rather than a specific fabric. I used a lycra/polyester mix ( similiar to spandex) and it served my purposes. Save a few bucks and go to the fabric shop and test some fabrics using the windows as a light source or get some samples and take them home. Like I said, most fabrics work fine as long as they are not a shear material. Also, it helps to use a strong light source onstage. Hope this helps, Chance

If you are wanting to actually see thru it at some point in time then you need Sharktooth Scrim.
It is almost invisible when lit from behind and is completely opaque when lit from the front at a sharp angle. With a smooth even fade from front to rear it will do amazing things. Hope that helps. Kevin

Try Rosco.com or a theatrical supply house... Trust me on this, you won't be happy using this in that application... Check out the twin white at Rosco as well... You can also use parchment paper which comes in rolls...
