I was just watching the new DVD's from Michael Ammar and he has a couple of routines on there from Irv Weiner. Both card routines are very well thought out and powerful pieces of magic. I have seen numerous references to Irv in many different places and know a little about him.
My question is, does anyone know of any books/notes/booklets by Irv that are still available? I've searched high and low for something and to no avail. There are several card routines that have been alluded to that he invented that I'm looking for, as well as studying his thoughts on magic. Any help is appreciated. Rick

I know that whatever I've seen or read from him is always high class magic with outstanding methods.
I remember reading his idea for sign coin to nested boxes. Wow! Get this... the box is sitting on the table the whole time. You dump out the boxes out one at a time and drop it into the spectator's hands... the last two boxes are dumped, still nested, in his hands and he can open them up himself to find his signed coin. It's easy to make and do and will fool you. greg

I can remember reading in Strong Magic, Darwin Ortiz wrote that Irv does a gambling routine using sponge balls which look like dice.
I thought this was a very interesting concept.

There are very, very many excellent items from Irv Weiner. quite a lot are mss.sold as DI's. Phil Willmarth and myself have been working on a book (big!) for some time, authorized by Irv before he died.

Irv put out a number of booklets called Manu-Secrets, in addition to releasing a number of separate items like his thumb tie, the mentioned sponge/dice trick, a neat thumb penetration with jumbo cards, and a card
corner in a sealed can, among others. He was a great performer and clever. I have some lecture notes somewhere, too. |

Neo, I'd read that years ago in Genii and, since Eugene is not only a friend but also an influence, I started researching Irv and his magic after reading Eugene's article. I've found very little since then, just references.
Anthony, I talked to Phil a while back and he told me about that, but this is the first I've heard about it since then. I'm glad to hear that it's still in the works. Rick

Glad someone is doing a book on Irv. I have a photo of him signed to me "To Paul a long time friend, All the Best, Irv" 1977...
Irv was one of my early mentors. I come from the Boston area and Irv was from Needham, a suburb of Boston. He taught me his thumb tie when I was 15, and I still use it today. Soft Dice is the die/sponge routine you are referring to and it is great! Irv had some great work with Daub, some original coin work, some mental material that was just great. He did the college circuit for years, and always sold out. I saw Irv work a sold-out two thousand seat theater at Lowell Tech back in the seventies, and he brought his act on in an overnite bag! Please, whoever is doing this book, put me on the list for an advance copy! Best, PSC

I had the good fortune of seeing Irv Weiner perform a platform act in a recital hall at a small college in the late 70's (early 80's?). There were only a few hundred people in the audience. The show was very well received. I recall his style was bold and dynamic. His magic was solid and very cleanly presented.
Much of the act escapes my memory after all these years, but one effect I will never forget. I gained a valuable lesson in presentation by watching him perform "The Tossed Out Deck". I believe it was his own creation. (Someone may correct me if I'm wrong.) It is a routine that requires no manipulation, no "moves", and only a couple dollars worth of a standard magic shop accessory. What it does require is just plain balls... absolute unwavering confidence. He had it. He was a most impressive magician, and I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to see him work. Greg |

I had the pleasure of being an associate member of Herman Hanson assembly #9 SAM in the seventies in which
Irv was a frequent attendee. Great magician. |

Hi all-I am very interested in finding more information (perhaps a source) for Irv Weiner's thumb tie routine.
I would appreciate your help. |

Ken Krenzel in his books brings a few items from IW and offers his versions, etc
There is a routine for the T&R card in selected can in one of the "Parades" of the Linking Ring Magazine. I remember that the construction of the routine sounded strange when I red it; I may have to check it out again.

Irv released "In the Can" though Hank Lee many years ago. You got a case of 12 small, sealed cans with card corners in them.

Irv regularly won the "best college performer" award.
Not many entertainers can bring an auditorium full of college students to tears, but Irv ("Mr Fingers") did it regularly.

I saw Irv at UMASS on a Friday afternoon, the partying had started and the audience was a little loud and rowdy. Within 5 minutes Irv owned them.
