This question involves a little bit of embarrassment, but I'm thinking of trying hypnosis to get over a fear that I've had for far too long but I'm not sure where to start and what the price is?

Is it best to look for a clinical psychologist who does hypnosis? A hypnotherapist? I'm also unsure to which qualifications to look for. I had a search on the Net, but there was so much information out there that I'm more confused.

Dear Dizzy,

One thing to keep in mind if you are looking for a hypnotist in the UK is that NONe of the certificates available to Hypnotists are endorsed by the UK government. The best advice is to look for a well established practice.

Cheltenham is in the UK (a few hours from London).

Daniel,

It's a shame that the genuinely good and hard-working hypnotist can't be recognised by some kind of institute. However, it definitely makes sense to go to a practise,

I will be moving to the London area to live one my own soon, so I'll try and search for one in that area. Being scared of the dark and having lights on (permanently) is going to be costly.

No disrespect, Daniel, but I'm not in exact awe of the British Government's opinion. I once asked John Prescot (deputy Prime Minister) what he though of hypnosis, and he said, "It's a reet ****** load o' *****!" I thanked him for his time and left.

But you are correct in saying that it is not 'fully' regulated.

Dizzy, as a practicng hynotherapist, I'm sure I can recommend something for you if you wish to PM me.

based in UK. pro magician/mentalist & Clinical Hypnotist.

The best and quickest way to get rid of your problem is with a qualified NLP Master practitioner, who facilitates what's known as breakthrough sessions. He will resolve your problem and a lot more easily in one day. It can be expensive, though, depending on who you go for.

Try this website. Go to the forum and ask questions there to find someone near you.

Thanks, Shrink, I feel more confident about doing it already.
