Does anyone have any suggestions on how to start juggling? I would like to learn, and was wondering if anyone had any tips.
Thanks

There's always the old standby Juggling for the Complete Klutz. I wonder how many people this book has helped get started over its long lifespan? With 3 decent bean bags included, you can't go wrong. I don't use my bags anymore, both they do hold a place of honor upon my shelf.

Thanks guys. It looks really difficult. Is it hard to learn to juggle?

It's a knack. You'll frustrate yourself for ages, then it'll suddenly click and you'll be delighted.
The learning curves on different props vary; diablo is probably one of the easier props to get started with, devil sticks on the other hand take mucho time to initially get the hang of. Everyone learns to juggle initially with beanbags/soft balls, and you'll learn a few basic tricks on the way. I personally find clubs easier to juggle with precision because the timing's built in with the spins, but that's just me, and I wouldn't recommend going straight to clubs without at least being able to do a basic three ball cascade. |

Here is a virtual juggling lesson for you.
http://www.multihobbies.com/juggling/index.htm If you look at the juggling.org site posted earlier you can find the closest juggling clubs and festivals, a great way to try different props and gain hands on experience.

Hello,
I have a free tutorial on my page, but for some reason I keep being told not to post links in messages. So, have a look at the link in my .sig below, and change the /bhm bit to /stuff and follow the links. Take care, Ian |

I have a book called "The Complete Juggler". It's helped me no end. I'm not sure who it is by but shall dig it out and get back to you.

I think that one was by Dave Finnegan (?). When I ran a juggling shop it was considered the bible, but for the sections on the Diabolo there are more modern techniques.
Take care, Ian |

Ian you are right, it was by Dave Finnegan. But worth the money though.

Though the Finnegan book has a lot of information, if you're just into ball juggling, I wouldn't get it right away. Try Charlie Dancey's "Encyclopaedia of Ball Juggling". It contains a lot more three, four and five ball tricks than "The Complete Juggler".
Before even buying a book, take a look at the Internet Juggling Database and the TWJC juggling tutorials, both free internet sites, full of great information. |

You may find that you start to fall forward while juggling. this can be avoided by standing against a bed, table or a sofa.

Rden, Juggling for the Complete Klutz was my FIRST book on juggling and my first Klutz book purchased . Because I was younger at the time, I didn't really understand much of it...but after I got the Clubs from Klutz for Christmas, I picked it up again and practiced with those bean bags...and then I had to keep buying balls because those bean bags flew everywhere and I lost a couple of them........I actually kept the only bean bag I had left . A great book! And I also got the Jugling Step-by-Step video from Klutz. VERY helpful there, and amazing what those guys can do. I can now juggle 3 objects, and 4 balls .

I've been able to juggle 3 objects in a cascade for some time now, but I had avoided practising with clubs. Which is really sad, because I can only juggle with objects that are sort of round. Like apples and oranges, but not bananas (the spinning gets my timing wrong). So don't take the easy way out like I did. Learn how to juggle with clubs once your get the 3 ball cascade.
Oh, I forgot this. The klutz book of juggling is good, but I strongly recommend George Gillson's "Beyond the Cascade" It is a step by step guide to 88 other 3 ball juggling tricks. It's very good, and the patterns are very beautiful. The material ranges from easy to challenging, so you'd have a lot of material. |

If you really want to get good, beyond a basic cascade, or are looking for some excellent starting tricks, and help from other jugglers go to http://www.jugglingdb.com.
There is a jugglewiki with simulators, articles for help, and rec. juggling, a google newsgroup is hosted there. Good luck with juggling! If you want any help with it PM me! |

There is a new juggling web site http://www.jugglinginstructions.com/ which breaks down every trick individually. David Finnigan has a new book out called "juggling from start to star" that quite honestly is so full of information you can't master it all in a life time. Club juggling is much harder than ball juggling. It is even harder if you don't have a good balanced set of clubs, there are manufacturers in the US and Europe, and a good set will cost $30 each. There are IJA affiliates all over the world which is the short cut to learning club juggling, and passing. I have been a juggling performer for 20 years, if I can supply any further information my email address is juggleral@comcast.net.
Keep your eyes in the skies Al Angello The "Klutz" book by John Cassidy is a worthless coffee table book for the man who has everything, and will teach you absolutely nothing for $10. just my opinion Al Angello

Like others, I received the Klutz book when I was young and that is what got me from "not juggling" to "JUGGLING!". Of course that's only one hurdle of many, but anything that helps one conquer hurdles is useful.
